View Full Version : Prius driving simulator
diamondlarry 10-20-2006, 03:27 PM I don't know if anyone has seen this, but here is a cool little simulator to play with. WARNING! it can be very addictive.:D So far, my best before it "ran out of gas" was 956.7 miles at an average of 72.4. After 4 miles I've had it as high as 105.*

Oh by the way, for those of you who are more familiar with the Prius, what is range B? All I can tell so far is that the average mpg is better than when it's in D.
brick 10-20-2006, 03:31 PM Does it actually run out of gas? I tried to do it a couple of weeks ago but eventually gave up after it ran for what seemed like too long after the last pip went away. Perhaps I'll have to try again?

Yeah, it does run out of gas. I mentioned that it's addictive from experience.:o It does seem to go forever after the last bar goes. I don't have too many places to go this weekend so maybe I'll get a 1,000 mile tank.:p
hobbit 10-20-2006, 05:23 PM If you go through my full rundown (http://techno-fandom.org/~hobbit/cars/b-mode.html) on B mode, you'll probably
agree that the simulator must have a bunch of stuff wrong.

Green FEH 10-20-2006, 07:06 PM I can tell you one mistake in the source code is the planetary gear should be 24 teeth, not 23. Tire diameter seems to be arbitrary and not related to a commercially available tire. Could not find where he defined the gears for the final drive ratio.

Interesting read. I think I heard that the simulator is based on the first gen Prius.
philmcneal 10-21-2006, 02:48 AM haha wow larry i didn't know you went all the way!
i haven't found a simulator for a car as good as this one imo.

Only with the right simulator. :D

I know, it's almost too good. I don't get much done when it's running. :p
Chuck 10-21-2006, 10:34 AM Maybe this will help me get ready to hypermile in a Prius. :D
Let's keep this thread going so Bill Gates will catch this and copy still another app - it's name.....
Microsoft Hypermiler

Pravus Prime 10-22-2006, 05:10 AM LOL. Not bad, but where's the jerk drivers?
tbaleno 10-22-2006, 03:35 PM LOL. Not bad, but where's the jerk drivers?
Yeah seriously. They are 90% of the reason I can't get decent numbers. Also it omitted the police officer that pulls you over for "drunk driving".
Hot Georgia 10-24-2006, 01:01 PM That's so cool Larry, thanks for the link! :)
diamondlarry 10-24-2006, 02:17 PM I'm glad your hooked, er, uh, I'm glad you like it.:p So far, my best results are 967.7 miles at 73.3 mpg until it "ran out of gas." I didn't have much to do last Saturday.:)
Hi Larry:
So far, my best results are 967.7 miles at 73.3 mpg until it "ran out of gas." I didn't have much to do last Saturday. :)
___Now that is above and beyond the call! I hereby bestow thee with the honorary title of Hybrid Hypermiling Sim extraordinaire given the level of dedication to drive a Prius I sim for 967.7 miles let alone for pushing the poor thing to 73.3 mpg’s :D
___I hope you can head up to the Milwaukee Hybrid Group meet this Saturday and take both Tom’s HCH-I w/ the CVT for a drive on the way up as well as maybe Bradlee’s Prius II for a drive when you arrive. Even if you never drive another hybrid again, just driving those two FE animals is enough to send chills down any non-hybrid hypermiler’s spine ;)
___Good Luck
___Wayne
tbaleno 10-24-2006, 10:06 PM Well, I am going to be super nice and let him have at it with the HCH. I won't even restrict him like I did with you. Well, until he gets used to the tires I don't want him to take the corners too hard ;). It should be a fun HCH driving exercise , especially since he will have to deal with traffic unlike the computer sim of the Prius I. Of course it will only be about a 2 hour drive in the HCH so he won't get as much time behind the wheel as he did with the prius sim ;)

___Way to go Wayne! Now my head won't fit under my welding helmet and I'm going to go blind from the flash.:D After 4 miles, my record is just over 103 mpg. In a week or two I'll try for another record. My biggest problem is not paying attention when I'm bleeding the battery down to 40% from it's top of 80. If it goes to below 40% it goes into forced charge. What usually happens is that I start checking for new post, email, etc. and next thing I know, the battery is in the red.:(
___I think it looks like I'll get to go Saturday.:) Do you have any traffic alerts for me between Elkhart, IN and Tom's? I plan on by-passing I90 and taking I80 all the way to I94 and up from there.
Well, I am going to be super nice and let him have at it with the HCH. I won't even restrict him like I did with you. Well, until he gets used to the tires I don't want him to take the corners too hard;) .
I think I've seen what the limits of your tires are. I thought we had accidentally entered a Drifting contest.:D I'm looking forward to Saturday.
tbaleno 10-25-2006, 06:33 PM Oh, right. I thought you had your eyes closed.
