View Full Version : Insightful Encounter
bestmapman 09-02-2009, 08:42 PM I was on the road today. I mean all day. Had two meetings to attend, 1 in Bowling Gren, OH and the other in Anderson, IN. Needless to say, it was up before the sunrise and home after the sunset.
However, the bright spot of my day, was when I stopped for dinner and saw the cleanest and best looking Insight I have ever seen. The car was just beautiful. After I took several pics, the couple came out of the restaurant and we talked for several minutes. Here are some pics. Yes my car is dirty, but so would you be if I had ridden you all day.

hobbit 09-03-2009, 09:46 AM Ah yes, the Honda Prius with nosejob by Ford. Heh...
.
What sort of MPG was its owner seeing?

bestmapman 09-03-2009, 10:13 AM They said low 40's. They have had it about 2 months.
msirach 09-03-2009, 10:47 AM They really need a clinic. My 16 year old daughter has consistently gotten upper 40's to lower 50's over 5000 miles.

That wasn't necessary.

Yea, I talked to them about FE and they are the just drive it type, they had no idea even what their tire pressure's were and they were resistant to increasing above placard. Also they haven't driven it much, so the breakin period is still a factor.
The other thing that I noticed when sitting right next to the Prius, was it was noticably smaller.
Kacey Green 09-03-2009, 06:57 PM "Just drive it" biggest crock o' bologna and I hear it every day. Truth is they do care but can't be bothered, so if you push the issue you look like the social misfit.
Continue on and continue to share your progress, eventually some will come around and be receptive, the rest will remain total zombies, until someone close to them, someone they look up to catches the bug. The anti-Zombie Driver bug.

There's one that parks next to my HCHII at work. It makes mine look like a mid-sized sedan, instead of a compact sedan.

bomber991 09-08-2009, 02:32 AM I still have not yet seen a single insight-2 on the road yet.
Kacey Green 09-08-2009, 11:16 PM I've seen a handful that weren't related to a dealership or American Honda. I can count them on one hand currently.
fuzzy 09-09-2009, 01:45 AM Only a handful? I'm seeing a lot more than that around Seattle, about 1 for every 4th or 5th Gen3 Prius.
But then, I've even seen a Malibu Hybrid in the wild here -- a few cars behind an Insight.
For some reason, I'm really noticing the Gen1 Insights back on the road again too. They seemed to have nearly disappeared for a while.

Agreed. I've seen 4 Insight-I's in the last 6 weeks, and 2 Insight-II's. I was down in Baltimore for my bro-in-law's birthday, and saw the standard hordes of Prius, and even a TCH!
I normally see 0 Insight-I's, except the one that was for sale. It has since disappeared.:(
Taliesin 09-10-2009, 12:22 PM I haven't seen an Insight around here at all, no matter what year it was made.
I've seen a few Prii, and a couple of HCH.
2 or 3 Prii on the Air Force Base, and one HCH. The HCH just showed up in our parking lot this week, so I can't claim to get the best FE in the lot now...
I hadn't really seen any Insight II's or Prius III's until the Cash for Clunkers program. Now I've seen 3 Insight II's and 3 Prius III's. Nice assume that people traded in their clunkers for really clean cars.
