1991 Chevrolet Suburban minus a rear bumper...

In a Health Care debate/Interview on Larry King Live last Tuesday night, it was revealed that GOP Senate Majority Leader, Bill First purchased a 2010 Toyota Prius-III while allowing his 91 FSP Chevrolet Suburban to go to the shredder under the C4C scrappage scheme.

Larry King: Off the topic, one quick question, Senator, before we leave. We understand from our crack staff that you took advantage of the Cash for Clunkers program. We understand you traded a 1991 Chevy Suburban for a 2009 Prius.

Bill Frist: And in Tenn...

Larry King: True or false?

Bill Frist: And in Tennessee, the Prius is, for a Republican -- you don't see a lot of Republicans driving a Prius. But I'm going to get 50 miles to the gallon. My -- my 18-year-old Suburban is going to have that -- that junk put in it which is going to kill it. So I'm very sad. But the taxpayer gave me $6,000 to do it and so I'm out there driving my Prius.

Of course Senator Frist had no idea the C4C program was worth a maximum $4,500 but he did correct the misstatement after the show.

One more fuel efficient vehicle on the road and one more FSP off...

Isn't Bill Frist going to get in trouble with Rush Limbaugh for buying a Prius?

Maybe he was including the tax deduction from the sales tax and financing? Do Republican Senators finance?

And now someone that didn't need any help at all gets it...

Like the fuel savings alone wouldn't have paid for his Prius (depending on how much he drives).

Assuming that every conservative or even every Republican cares what a radio entertainer thinks is a little narrow minded.

Kudos to the senator for not only buying the Prius, but for NOT waving it in front of everyone in an attempt to pander. He was asked by Larry King about, he did not bring it up himself.

As to the amount, i am not 100% up on the rebates.
Is there a tax credit available on the Prius?

I have at times thought about pasting a huge Rush Limbaugh sticker on the back of my Insight... just to see if drivers end up totally confused. ;):p

Isn't Bill Frist going to get in trouble with Rush Limbaugh for buying a Prius? One of the best things that could happen is for talk shows to fade into oblivion. The effect of them has been to polarize American politics and make it harder to get things done. Ratings go up when talkshows throw trollbait like "death boards" on the healthcare debate. I hate national topics like this become convoluted with such dishonest drivel. I'm not an advocate of socialized medicine, BTW.

I take this tangent because hybrids have been overly politicized.

Title should say "Former Senator." He stopped representing in 2007.

I completely agree.
