So I was playing stupid, and pulled in at the Honda/Ford dealer (they're kind of combined, don't ask because I don't know ;)) to ask if they has some sort of used-car dealer inventory search to look around nearby dealers for Insight-I's.

I never got that far.

As I was losing speed in a FAS, getting ready to turn into the parking lot, I saw out of the corner of my eye a SILVER INSIGHT RIGHT THERE!!!

My breath caught and I parked my car nose-in at the first spot (I know, bad, but it was right in front of me and it was on a slope - I backed out using no gas too:D).

I practically RAN into the dealership. Turns out it was technically in the Ford inventory. I had them open it up for me.

2001 Insight, CVT. It wasn't/isn't a 5MT, but I didn't/don't care. It was an Insight. And it was there. Where I could test drive it:Banane59::Banane27::woot:

Interior is dirty/beat, one skirt has a scrape on the outside, but it looks half-decent.

99701 miles, LMPG of 48.6. Tires are still the Potenza RE92's, the front passenger was low on air. I started it up, and was crestfallen - SoC showed 3 bars.

I only got a 2 mile loop with it. Despite that, and taking the warm-up hit, I pulled 39.2 MPG over 2.1 miles. I was relatively impressed, but moreso I was just happy to drive one once.

Going back today with a slightly interested friend for another go-round.

It's listed at $8k, but I have a feeling it could be gotten for $6800.

While the CVT is not as efficient as the 5MT version, it is cleaner and still capable of startling mileage if you want to work at it.

The Insight is a great little car! :D

Nice find nevyn!

Oh, I'd take it in a heartbeat. The problem is I could only afford it right now if I managed to get 100 people each to chip in $50, or something like that. :(

I figured I'd put it out for anyone else to snap up if they want.

If I was anywhere near there I might think about it...

2001 CVT? I thought 2002 was the first year they were released in the US. 2000 for the 5-speed. Oh well.

Nope -- 2000 was manual transmission only and the next year they introduced the CVT.

It's still there all alone...maybe I should buy a lottery ticket.

I bought my HCH from a Ford dealership. The fun part was I knew way more about the car than the salesman so he really wasn't in any sort of position to BS me.

Grabbed these today, for no reason other than personal proof that I got to see one up close.

don't mind, I still do it, the second one I met was not only photographed from every angle as was the first and driven nicely, but also got about an hour of video with me and the car

JusBringIt - sorry, it's a CVT, not a 5-speed.

I just can't swing the finances. Even if I managed to private sale my Lumina for ~1500, I'd still come up about $4800 short.

RLC - no idea why one photo doesn't work for you. It's just a closer zoom.

It seems to be working now. Too bad about the finances. :(

I looked in auto-trader and found a 2000 insight manual not to far from me. It's silver also! ;) has 98K on it. asking 7,000.

This is right from the ad

"car has a new timing belt, spark plugs changed, new car battery, engine mounts changed, and new IMA battery module installed in May 2009."

That sounds promising -- are you going to take a look?

I'm not realy looking to buy anything. Just got curious about if there was one nearby me. I might e-mail him to see if he still has it then decide. I have been contemplating a manual tranny car. this automatic is convenient but I feel like I have gotten as much as i can get out of it.
