TOKYO (XFN-ASIA) - Honda Motor Co will recall about 270,000 of its vehicles, most of them sold in Japan, because of defects in electrical circuits or parts associated with the engine, officials of the government and the company said.

Honda Motor will recall Odyssey mini-vans and Life cars after receiving reports of two Odysseys catching fire and 104 cases of Life engines shutting down suddenly, an official of the transportation ministry said.

'In the cases with the Odyssey, electrical circuits for the windshield wipers ... may catch fire,' said the official.

The Life models have alternator problems, which can lead to the battery running down and suddenly shutting down the engine, he said.

Honda will recall 117,500 Odysseys, of which 85,000 are in Japan and the rest in China, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand, a company spokesman said.

The Life small car is sold only in Japan. The company will recall 153,000 of them, he said.

Separately, Mazda Motor Corp said it will recall 12,235 cars sold in Japan because of defects in airbags, which might suddenly deploy, a company spokeswoman said.

Hi Terry:

___It looks like Japan INC. (Toyota, Honda, and Mazda) are having their own share of automobile recall issues as of the last 18 - 24 months. I do not wish this upon any manufacturer but at least it is not just the domestic manufacturers being plagued with these kinds of teething pains.

___Thanks for the link.

___Good Luck
