I'd love for psychologists to explore this phenomena.
I've read countless articles on hypermiling and hybrids, and it's the exception when it's discussed dispassionately.
Most people don't discuss hypermiling and hybrids on their own merits - they overdose political and psychological crap into it. It's not driving sensibly, but some kind of projection of themselves - a statement. Bump into someone in the hallway and it's no big deal...cut someone off on the freeway and it could turn into road rage.
The comments on these articles obviously have people that had a closed mind to hybrids and hypermiling - never ever considered it. To be honest, the degree of vitriol suggests it may scare them stiff.
Are we seeing people with a psychosis?
