Hopefully this finally lays to rest the claim that Ford just licenses its tech from Toyota. --Ed.

Ford has set a record with the new 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid becoming the most patented car in history.

With new technologies emerging in the auto history, patents are being filed to preserve the rights and innovation of many aspects of the car. It comes as little surprise that Ford has applied for numerous patents for its great new hybrid.

The 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid officially holds 119 patents or pending patent applications, the most for any vehicle ever.

Some of the patents include the hybrid technology, SmartGauge with EcoGuide, Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Alert, and the Easy Fuel Capless Fuel-Filler System.

The company intend to focus on having high quality patents to protect their breakthrough innovations with all advanced vehicles that it... http://www.allcarselectric.com/blog/1021520_fusion-hybrid-holds-more-patents-than-any-car-ever-made

It looks like Ford pulled out all the stops in designing this car. It's sort of the opposite of how GM designs things, eh?

Awesome. Indigo, you're right on with the GM opposite... I'm becoming more and more intrigued with Ford Hybrids: I was already enamored with Debbie's FFH ;)

Great! Impressive stuff, and I apologize for misleading anyone by mischaracterizing the Toyota/Ford settlement as a licensing deal. Ford clearly developed this stuff on their own, even if it is similar to Toyota's, and based on comparing the FFH with the TCH may be doing it better.

Now let's see this technology in some more Fords, like the Focus and either the Windstar or one of their "crossover" family-car FSPs.

Hi All:

___I am so glad Ford is taking their best and brightest along with the technology developed from them to new heights not seen from a domestic manufacturer in ages.

___When and if this recession clears, I hope Ford makes $billions and continues to improve upon what they have just started.

___I imagine a future with Ford and Toyota going head to head for sales titles around the world and everybody else following in their footsteps. VW is doing similar things with their diesels in Europe so I would not count them out either.

___Good Luck

___Wayne

I wish they'd put a hybrid engine on the Focus and/or sell one of those 1.2 liter engine Fords here. I might even buy a Ford. I can't believe I am writing this btw. I used to say, " Friends never let friends drive a Ford". Of course, "made in Japan" used to mean shoddy and cheap.

Yes, Fords are getting awesome and I hope they bring the Fusion Hybrid over here, that is a very nice car indeed.

On the issue of patents... get rid of them. They abolish innovation and people just end up stealing ideas from them anyways. They're used in an anti-competitive manner so people can monopolize on certain technologies and smart people in small start up companies with good ideas end up being shafted by big corporations and their patent portfolio. I've seen this happen so many times in the software world where it has literally killed small companies.
