Florida Power & Light built the state’s first large-scale solar array in Sarasota County at Rothenbach Park.
Now the company is paying to convert four county-owned Toyota Prius hybrid vehicles into plug-in electric hybrids that average an eye-popping 100 miles to the gallon, the first such plug-in partnership between FPL and a local government.
Sarasota County is shaping up as a test site for FPL’s green outreach efforts and the growing relationship was obvious Wednesday as top company officials announced the $45,000 conversion donation at county headquarters.
“By itself this effort is modest in light of the monumental efforts ahead of us with climate change,” but each small step is important, said Pam Rauch, FPL’s vice president for external affairs.
