8 - 9:30 a.m., Monday, October 2, 2006 Where: Traffic Improvement Association fall meeting Library Parking Lot Southfield Civic Center 26000 Evergreen Road (1/2 mile south of I-696) Southfield, Mich.Details: The Michigan State Police EPIC program (Education & Prevention of Impaired Crashes) has reached hundreds of Michigan teenagers to educate them about the risks of drinking and driving.
The program uses a GEM electric vehicle (http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2006/09/29/023511.html#), produced by Global Electric Motorcars, a division of DaimlerChrysler, on a course laid out with safety cones.
Drivers are outfitted with special "Drunk Busters" goggles which simulate the effects of being alcohol- or drug-impaired.
The result is a real life experience with the difficulty of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
