http://www.cleanmpg.com/photos/data/2/AmericanFlag.jpg Indeed, when a better mousetrap comes from another manufacturer in the next year or two, the Prius lovers will realize that the cars they adore so much just aren’t as good as they thought! Isn't the Internet wonderful? Where else can you act completely drunk or totally mental while pretending to be an authority on something? --Ed.

I’m not going to sugarcoat it…I’ve never liked the Prius. Aside from good gas mileage, it is a lousy car. Here are the ten things I hate about the Toyota Prius:

1) It’s too small for a family: There is absolutely no possible way that I could own one and transport my two young daughters. With the seat moved into position to accommodate my 6’4” frame, the only things that will fit in the back seat are groceries.

2) It’s ugly: U-G-L-Y it ain’t got no alibi, it’s ugly, yeah it’s ugly. I understand that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but this beholder thinks that the proportions are all off. The Prius is as pretty as that daughter of your mother’s friend who isn’t married despite her “great personality”.... http://fourwheeldrift.wordpress.com/2008/08/04/ten-things-i-hate-about-the-toyota-prius/

Could it be that he is over the top?

With no legitimate complaints that aren't so grossly subjective and full of hyperbole that they don't warrant a serious response?

They are SLOW: We’re talking four seconds slower to 60 mph than a Toyota Avalon sedan! Entering a highway in one can be downright dangerous, especially if there is a passenger and some luggage.

Americans need to learn how to pass on the left, and slower moving vehicles need to stay to the right. Then it wouldn't be so hard to get up to speed on the onramp.

3) It’s loud inside: An amazing thing – when you take all the sound deadening material out, a car becomes really frigging loud at speed. A Prius seems to transmit more road noise to the cockpit than a 60’s Corvette with warped bias-ply tires. I’d hate to go cross country in one.

That's total nonsense. The Prius is easily the quietist car I've ever owned. I have driven it cross-country, to Maine on one trip, and Kansas on another. Again, it's a remarkably quiet car.

When I drove it, I was surprised at how noisy it was. Sure at 5-10mph in electric mode its quiet, but at regular speeds its as noisy as any Civic or Corolla.

I wonder if he is just trying to stir up readers. kind of like a radio shock jock.

I looked at one or two others of his articles. In the before the Prius article one he likes the up coming GM Volt. IMO, He is contradicting him self, and therefor without any value.
GM Earnings and the need for KY Jelly (http://fourwheeldrift.wordpress.com/2008/08/01/gm-earnings-and-the-need-for-ky-jelly/)
Still, the Volt can’t get here quickly enough!
I admit I did not read all of his 10 reasons but.. The Volt fits the ones I read.

The most objective thing is that it is small for a big driver. I have heard this is the case. I wouldn't know of course. But I know someone who got a Honda Civic Hybrid because is so tall.
But looks well I think it is cute, but I don't care too much for the spoiler. I don't know how that wouldl help the aero factor.

Why does the Miley Cyrus (or parody) song Seven Things I Like About You come to mind? :p

I'll never understand why people care so much about other peoples subjective opinions in regards to what they own. Objective opinions are valid, but if I owned or wanted to buy the Prius, I could not care less about whether someone else thought it was "pretty" or not.

Right, so this article either a)shouldn't be posted as news or b)shouldn't get anyone into a tizzy.

To those of you wondering why he isn't objective: it is a car review, or opinion piece. I don't think car reviewers travel the country conducting surveys of car owners when they write their reviews. They simply express their opinions of the car, which makes the review highly subjective. This is no reason to be offended.

OK, have you noticed that the Prius has a disproportionate amount of opinions? Seems out of proportion to a couple of electric motors and batteries in the vehicle.

That's the point: it's off the wall about how defensive or angry people get about hybrids in general or the Prius in particular....all kinds of assumptions, including socio-political-lifestyle ones - quite assine. Their loathing is irrational.

Anyone notice a cause-and-effect on this recession? That $4 gas? Maybe more gas-saving technologies like that God-forsaken Prius could have at least softened the blow.

We have the tech to avoid being hostage to oil spikes, but tragic millions of childish people like this blogster avoid them like the plague and even helped goad GM and Chrysler to echew them until they are in Chapter 11.

One other thing: I post what generates responses....looking at this thread, do you think these kind of News Articles will be avoided? ;)

Ditto, but also this: it is 47% uglier than AeroCivic (.25 (2010) v. .17 IIRC).

It is around 50 to 67% prettier than my Tacoma, however.

If the Prius is ugly he's going to be disappoint with a lot more cars as that will be the trend as other manufacturer's wind tunnels say the same thing.

I really would like to see what my Ranger's engine/tranny combo would do in the Aerocivic.

It's a great combination that's held back by a disgusting Cd.

It just be that people are scared that if the majority of people eventually end up buying Prius like vehicles, no one will make a muscle car anymore. Which may be partially true....when we can translate "those who own muscle cars" into "those few who own muscle cars", then muscle cars will only be available as a rare and thus expesive vehicle. Frankly I wouln'd buy a muscle car of today when so many classics are available.
