Got my slow-leaking tire fixed. One of the 20-something guys asked about my Insight, as if he might get one. Did not get too technical, but gave his some advice for finding one on ebay, general comments on how it performs....then he ends is saying if he got one he would replace the hybrid engine!  That's like getting an ice cream cone then dumping the ice-cream! If he wants a ricer car, he needs to look for a Civic, CRX Si, etc....

While I think it would be generally idiotic to convert an Insight to a racing machine, I wonder if putting a 2.0 liter engine could be done. The weight and aerodynamics would help it fly, but it would need more than just and engine to race well.

On the one hand it could scream, but I don't think it could do it in anything but a straight line. The little engine and trans are balanced somewhat by the battery in the rear. Remove the battery and put in a much heavier motor, and there goes whatever degree of neutral handling you might have had. Turbocharging the existing engine has been done, and it even worked out to have pretty darned good FE considering how quick the car is. Personally, that's as far as I would ever dream of taking it in anything but a drag-only car.
