I just figured out how wind power could power the planet.

Put them on the windiest place on the planet.

No NIMBY concerns to speak of - almost unlimited room.

Anyone know where I'm going?

Not sure, but I'd guess it's either really hot or really cold.

Edit: or really wet.

This will make the ANWR debate seem lame.

Antartica is the windiest place on Earth.

It turns out the Sahara is really not THAT windy.

I like the out of the box thinking. I can envision a lot of transmission lines wars though. ;)

Ironically, ANWR is a pretty windy place.

But the penguins, what about the penguins.

You want a big fat set of cables crossing penguin breeding grounds and then plunging down to the bottom of the ocean and back up to Chile and all the way up to USA?

Probably easier going underwater all the way to San Diego, but surely the EMF off the wires will bring half the ocean to extinction.

The Gulf Wind project, apparently now under construction off the Texas coast will occassionally experience hurricane force winds. Info on how they will deal with the situation appears not readily available. I'm sure they've got it all figured out though :)

My favorite wind turbine picture is on wiki

Hurricane force winds may be a disaster.

Some of our politicians have recently said that we should tie the head bankers to the turbine blades. That way when our grand kids ask where our wealth went, we could say
The Answer Is Blowing In The Wind!

Sorry for going off topic but it had to be said!

Instead of using power lines under the ocean to harness wind power from Antarctica, it could be beamed from space back to the US....and it could be used as a weapon.
