I found this ad for the VW Beetle, which I am guessing is from 1973 or '74, since the music is from The Sting, which ran in theaters in 1973. It pokes fun at the EPA estimates that were emerging at the time and the hopelessly optimistic figures quoted.

The ad shows a stripped Beetle, driven by a jockey, running on motorcycle tires, and they listed an 84mpg result.

35 years later, a midsize Fusion hybrid approached that same number without any modifications at all.

84mpg in a Bug? Well, they promised an honest 25mpg at the time.

Hmmm... motorcycle tires. I hadn't considered that one.Since the Insight also weighs about 1800lbs, would motorcycle tires be better than the Insights? I think Wayne will say no.
