View Full Version : Calibrating tanks/distance in SG-I?
KJSatz 05-09-2009, 12:51 PM As per my other thread, I got a SG-I recently. I read the manual but perhaps missed a section, I don't know. I set my engine displacement to 1.8L. But is the SG-I capable of keeping track of an entire tank and then I fill up and enter in how much gas the pump did and how many miles the odo showed to calibrate it? Or is that not a feature on it? I think it has version 2.15.
Thanks guys!

Look on pages 17 and 18 of the SG-I manual and it will describe how to calibrate speed and fuel usage. This is in the version 2.51 manual available on the scangauge website.
KJSatz 05-11-2009, 02:04 PM It seems that mine is an older version which does not support this feature :(. I will still keep track of all of the trips to try to calibrate it using the engine displacement adjustment. VSS is dead on with my speedometer.
So far my trips have been around 50mpg, which is a bit high but actually feasible. We'll see what happens.
Is there any way to update the software on this thing?
Thanks!
Right Lane Cruiser 05-11-2009, 04:43 PM KJ, you'll want to adjust the "Speed" setting to adjust the number of miles to match your ODO. Just take your last tank distance (and the one shown on the SG), figure up the percentage difference and adjust it that way.
As for the gallons, you have to stop through a screen for that adjustment as you cycle through from "Fill-Up". To make it easier, it shows the number of gallons at the top and a percentage at the bottom. As you advance or decrement it you'll see the gallons at the top get adjusted as well -- just match it up to what you filled with.
Hopefully that helps you? I wouldn't worry too much about the speeds matching up - the distance is more important and you already have a big speed gauge built right into your dash. ;)
KJSatz 05-12-2009, 10:18 AM Mine says it's version 2.05. It doesn't match up with the 2.51 manual from for example the SG website. The manual that came with mine, version 2.00, does not describe this. So is there an older version (...that I have...) that doesn't support these tank features? Is there any way to upgrade the software?
Right Lane Cruiser 05-12-2009, 11:25 AM What do you see when you press the fill-up setting?? I don't think I've ever heard of a version that does not show this.
KJSatz 05-12-2009, 01:03 PM For example, in the Trip menu, after Previous Day, cycles back to Current, not to Tank.
From the main menu, if I press More>, the given menu is
<Contrast Units>
<Lamp More>
And after pressing More> again,
<Mode Cmnds>
<Engine More>
And More> again,
<Version Rate>
Use Defaults>
Version 2.05.
The Version in the manual from the SG website (that includes, for example, Fillup) is 2.28.
Any ideas???
Right Lane Cruiser 05-12-2009, 01:07 PM Wow. Okay.
Well, reaching way back, I seem to recall that GaryG told me he'd had his SG-I updated at some point. I think it is worth giving Linear Logic a call (email apparently backlogs quickly over there) to ask what process you can follow to get your gauge updated with the newest available firmware for that unit. You'll have to mail it to them, though.
KJSatz 05-13-2009, 10:18 PM Well they said for $25 and the cost of shipping it to them, they would upgrade it to the newest firmware. They also offered $30 off the price of a SGII. I think I'm just going to stick with what I have. I'm learning about microcontrollers; maybe I'll try to make something OBD-II better and cheaper myself down the line.
psyshack 05-17-2009, 08:19 PM My SG-1 is a 2.31 version bought like two weeks before the SG-II release:eyebrow:
It works good with the MZ3. But turning on the A/C or defrost in the HCH screws it up big time. The real time MPG and over all trip stats take a dump.
GaryG 05-17-2009, 08:53 PM Wow. Okay.

The SG I gave you was the first SG to work with Hybrids I bought in December of '05. My old big box SG was never updated after that when I owned it. Hope this helps.
