2010 Honda Elite – Pricing and specifications will be released closer to actual availability sometime this summer.

Honda announced yet another early 2010-model-year machine introduction, the Elite scooter.

Modern styling, comfortable seating, two-up capacity and strong performance in a sleek and fuel efficient scooter are the hallmarks of the new 2010 Elite. This new scooter features an all-new 108cc liquid-cooled, fuel-injected four-stroke engine and a light scooter chassis. The new Elite provides all the comfort and quality of a Honda in an affordable around-town runabout that anybody can enjoy. Quick trips to the store and other errands are the Elite’s specialty, thanks to a generous under-seat storage area that’s big enough to stow a full-face helmet and more.

Look for the Elite to add more fun than ever to your summertime adventures.

This one is highway capable, to put it mildly:

It's the updated version of the bike I ride, a 2003 BMW R1150RT.

Hi Justin:

___The bike is supposed to be fully street legal so we are good there.

___I called Jon Siedel in Torrance for more specs but they are not yet ready to release anything more just yet.

___Harry, the world wide release of the S 1000 RR release is scheduled for tomorrow morning. Are you interested in a write-up on that one?

___Good Luck

Any idea if this thing is Highway capable?I'm not fully versed on scooters, but believe it takes 150cc to get to 60mph. Since it's at 108cc, unless fuel injection and Honda efficiency can make a difference, I'm going to guess it maxes at 50mph. I hope to be pleasantly corrected.

The Yamaha Vino will go 52 mph. It has a 125, and it's a lot of fun.

Wayne,

I started looking into that new model a week or so ago, and don't know too much about it, other than what I've Googled so far.

Here's an article:
http://www.cycleworld.com/article.asp?section_id=3&article_id=676

It's a World-Superbike-class all-out racing bike. It's pretty much a standard Japanese-style racing bike, meant to go racing against Japan and Italy's best, with an inline 4 engine, chain drive, conventional suspension, and so on. BMW has some Formula 1 technology at its disposal.

From what I gather, the "civilian" streetbike version would become available later, perhaps late this fall.

BMW apparently is seeking to return to what it once enjoyed, having the fastest motorcycles in the world.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_motorcycles

BMW motorcycles have won many prestigious races around the world and have held many records. One of BMW's most significant titles is being the first non-British manufacturer to win the Isle of Man TT race, which BMW accomplished in the 1939 Isle of Man TT.
BMW Motorrad also enters motorcycles into the Dakar Rally, an annual car, truck and motorcycle race usually from Europe to Africa featuring works riders such as Simon Pavey and motorcycling celebrity Charley Boorman. BMW motorcycles have won the Dakar Rally six times.

Younger riders are probably unaware of BMW's heritage of race bikes.

If you want a fast BMW bike now, the new K1300S is available now, with 175 hp.

Hi Harry:

___The XR650L I rode three weeks ago was already scary fast w/ the capability of hitting 60 mph in 4 seconds. A 1,000 + CC anything would scare me to "death" :D

___I am currently trying to pull off a hat trick by procuring a VW Jetta TDI Sportwagen with a 6-speed stick for a trip down to NC to do some test drives of (3) BEV's from EV Innovations and while on the way, stop in at Westwood, NJ to grab a FI'ed BMW G 650 GS and a StreetGuard 3 Suit for the weekend of May 29th – June 1st.

___Would you like to join us for the fun and possibly grab a bike from BMW of your own to review?

___The 1,000 + cc bikes will have to be consideration for another time in my case ;)

___Good Luck

That sounds great, but I'm afraid I'm tied up at work for the foreseeable future. The road & bridge construction season has started, our work load has actually increased rather than decreased due to stimulus money, one of our guys transferred to another location, increasing my work load by 50 percent, and it doesn't look like I'll be able to take any time off for a while. I'm not certain I'll even get a decent road trip in this season.

Three more seasons and I can retire, at which time hopefully I'll be healthy enough to do some serious bike travel.

Thanks for the offer! Have a good time, and I'm sure you'll find BMW bikes to be good-handling, good-performing bikes.

I just visited my BMW dealer today, and bought a new air-mesh jacket, with the hi-viz yellow, to do battle with the hordes of cell-phone-in-ear drivers, and the occasional gal doing her nails while driving.

I'm just off I-86 in western New York, so drop me a line if your travels take you this way.

Harry
