The glossary didn't have it, but what does the 'N' in "NICE-on Coasting" stand for -- is it Neutral? If so, then is it basically popping the transmission into neutral to reduce engine compression slow-down, but not FAS where you turn the car completely off and coast?

I found it in the mileage logs and wondered about it -- searching the threads seemed to hint the answer, but not entirely.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure you have already answered your own question. Why NICE when you can FAS?

I'm pretty sure you have already answered your own question. Why NICE when you can FAS?

Thanks for the info. To answer the above question -- of course not all applications are best of FAS -- in my Integra I can FAS about a half-mile through my neighborhood, and if I can get the garage door triggered fast-enough, I can make it up the driveway and just over the concrete lump and into the garage and just under the door; plug in the EBH, and be ready for the next trip. I need to find a way to boost the signal on that opener (hmmm ).

If there is any possibility of children playing in the neighborhood, I would feel most comfortable having the PS and enough VAC to make a decent ABS stop if necessary (2, 90-degree turns - one semi-blind and you have to apex the corners and not scrub speed to keep it rolling). My neighbors don't like my apexing around turn 2 because it looks fast. I'd say it's close to 25, so it's legal, but controversial. On the TSX, it's still breaking in - and I've tried FAS, but the steering is super-stiff. I NICE-on coast in and DICE it up the driveway (slower speeds). I'd rather wait, and besides, it's the wife's daily driver.

On a side note, now that we have a built-in fuel economy graphic in the dash, she is driving much more efficiently: mostly riding the ridges, but keeping the acceleration under control. Feedback is critical -- I don't know what I, myself, would do without the ScanGauge! :Banane38:

Hi Rick:

___You have NICE-On figured out nicely ;)

___With regards to braking under a FAS, why not test your Integra? You will be able to lock them up from any speed in FAS, your stopping distance and even control should not be hampered (as long as you are not on your third tap or close). Strength needed for steering inputs at 20 and above should be minimal as well. Try it and post the details afterwards.

___Great to hear about your wife in the TSX! Looking at Tessie’s first tank, your wife is doing an excellent job and please congratulate her from all of us!

___Good Luck

___Wayne
