View Full Version : local editorial cartoon says it all laurieaw 09-14-2006, 10:00 AM from our local paper. need i say more? http://livinginoz.smugmug.com/photos/95299402-S.jpg johnf514 09-14-2006, 10:14 AM My sentiments exactly. =| Chuck 09-14-2006, 10:47 AM Is this a buddy of the guy this is trading in his HCH (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showpost.php?p=11982&postcount=3) for a gas guzzler? brick 09-14-2006, 11:27 AM So long as manufacturers keep on developing hybrid and clean diesel technology for the rest of us. We are going to need it badly as the oscillation centers around higher and higher prices from year to year and the spikes become that much more painful. It's so aggravating to watch adults go through the decision making process the same way children do. They want it now and it makes sense because gasoline is getting cheaper right now. What about taking the kids on that road trip next summer? What happens when gasoline breaks the $4 barrier...which it will, though we can't know when...and suddenly you can't afford to drive the tank? Oh, right. I forgot! It's not going to matter because they would just be in the back watching the DVD rather than seeing things. Why go anywhere when they can just sit in front of the big screen at home? Children don't need to see anything in three dimensions anymore. Sorry...I tend to get off on a rant about this stuff. laurieaw 09-14-2006, 12:32 PM brick, you aren't the only ranter, though sometimes i feel like i am preaching to the choir. i think i have mentioned the young woman who works in my department, about 28, 2 year old daughter....she drives a chevy trail blazer, and she drives it fast. she laughs at me for going slow and for caring about my mileage. when i question her about wanting to at least have something left for when her daughter grows up, she honestly said she doesn't care! i have also heard her say how annoyed she gets if she gets behind someone slow (like me) and has to stop using the cruise control.......to her, getting there a minute faster is more important than anything. we were in a manager's meeting this morning, discussing new products we might carry. one of them is some kind of mount for the large plasma tvs. our marketing manager has read that with gas prices so high, and prices coming down on those type of TVs, sales are soaring. heck, why go outside when you can sit on your butt and watch it life size. no wonder americans are overweight...... sigh PalominoJ 09-14-2006, 01:39 PM Ran across this: "Did you know there is Guinness World REcord for fuel economy? It was set using the Shell Global Fuel Technology and Fuelstrectch tips.";) tbaleno 09-14-2006, 02:06 PM Yes. And it wasn't nearly what some of the best here get. Just because its "an offical record" doesn't mean its the best. Look for the post earlier about the girl in japan that gets well over 100mpg on her normal commute. Also, there is a question in my mind if they were talking US Gallons or British. I noted that they were out of London. http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2006/04/04/002956.html xcel 09-14-2006, 08:33 PM Hi Jesus: ___There are the science projects that would not be road worthy on their best day that have world records stretching into the 11,000 + mpg range. Then there are the mass produced automobiles. There is discussion of modded large vehicles in the Shell Eco-Marathons here in IL. receiving in the 300 mpg range. I have never seen any of the details however? Then there was HF2006 when a Honda Insight nailed down a 180.9 mpg Round Trip segment. Distance world records on a single tank of fuel was held by a French team in a Peugeot 307 before June 2004 IIRC. Somewhere out near 1,450 miles. Then the Honda Insight in June of 04 at 1523.9 miles. Then another at 1534.2 miles just a few weeks ago. The last 2 were far above 100 mpg’s. The Peugeot was in the high 70’s running off its std. 20 gallon tank IIRC? ___Shell recently sponsored an around the globe FE challenge in which a European team did it on 24 + tanks of fuel at 52.x mpg. Guinness World Record for Fuel Efficiency - Driving the Globe on 24.4 Tanks (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2094). There are at least 30 members here at CleanMPG that could whoop the snot out of that record without even trying ;) ___Good Luck ___Wayne vBulletin® v3.6.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
