I want to buy a fit sometime this summer but I am wondering if I should wait for end of the year clearance or a 2010. Looking locally there are lots of Fit's(20+) on every lot. Seeing that Toyota is now offering 1k cashback on the Yaris do you think Honda will follow them?

Currently I sell Hondas and used cars for a living.
Honda has very little markup in the Fit, you can sell one for full sticker with a ton of accessories and still make a minimum commission. I would get a Fit while they are still on the ground, if the price of fuel goes up soon or the economy gets better soon, we will run out like we did last summer.
I wouldn't want to get caught waiting and then end up with nothing.
By the way, where are you located?

I live in Northeast Ohio. I have a local dealer willing to sell me one at invoice. The problem is that they only have auto's in the sport model. I would really prefer stick so I am debating on base/stick vs sport/auto or waiting for the 2010.

Invoice is as good as it gets unless you are the owner/managers family, or they are really hard up for one more sale.
Tell them you want them to locate you a 5MT, and they will probably charge you a delivery charge (they have to pay someone to get the car) a reasonable fee is $350 or less depending on how far they have to go to get it. More if you want it towed to keep the miles off.
The vehicle was just overhauled this year, no major changes are expected for 2010. If I had to guess what would change, I'd say VSA Standard and price increases.

Thanks for the input. I have a feeling that delivery charge will be pricey. Obviously I have no way of doing a dealer locate but I've checked every Honda dealer's individual website within 100 miles and nobody has a white mt sport:(

The dealer can check every Honda dealership in the country, in one sitting. When you are ready, ask them, they can also check every Honda Dealership in the country's incoming units.

The process is time consuming and most dealers won't do it until they have a customer with a deposit.
