European spec 2010 Honda Insight-II – Less than $23,000 USD and a 53.5 mpgUS combined on the NEDC.

UK -- Honda’s British pricing and release date for the Insight-II was leaked today showing the Base SE starting at $22,599 (USD). This is $3,460 less than the base Toyota Prius... within the UK.

The all-new European spec, 2010 Honda Insight-II is currently scheduled to reach UK dealership showrooms on April 4.

Japanese pricing for the brand new 2010 Honda Insight-II “G” variant (LX equivalent here in the States) was officially released earlier this month with a starting price of $21,259 USD (cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19302).

Although official US pricing is not yet available, the fuel economy achieved during the 2010 Honda Insight-II preview (cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?p=179380) places this vehicle well up on our list of vehicles to watch. Once the US’ pricing and release date is announced, we will be sure to post the details.

So.... assuming the same Insight - Prius gap continues across the waters to the US we can expect the Insight-II to start for around $18,000?

With most UK to US transitions, don't the manufacturers just replace the pound symbol with a dollar symbol? I mean, it seems like they completely ignore the fact that there is infact an exchange rate that exists between the GBP and USD.

Given the price differential vs the Prius, I'm still holding out some hope that the Insight can beat $20k. But I AM nervous about it. Even though the dollar's incredibly strong against most currencies (including the GBP at just $1.50 or so), it's not so great against the Yen right now. Of course that drives up the price of the competition too.

The UK has high tarrifs (?) on import cars/trucks. A used American vehicle sells for exorbitantly high amounts there.

Considering the Prius I gets 41mpg combined, and the Fusion hybrid gets 42mpg, the Insight II does not look bad if it's priced competively.
