My town of 75,000 has $16.5 million in projects. Amazing. That divides out to $8,800 for my family of 4.
9 mil - water treatment / delivery system upgrades
7 mil - police communications system - that price is simply incredible
1/2 mil - improvements to the city bus system

Look up what's happening in your area. You might be able to affect the outcome on a local level.

AustinEnergy is one of the most forward thinking utilities in the country, and they are getting rewarded as a result. Millions for their efficiency retrofitting/upgrade programs (CFLs, weatherization), as well as their Solar PV rebates............which are absolutely awesome. We plan on taking advantage of the latter in the years to come.
They also have a big transit push for "priority light" buses...........buses which have the power to keep lights green longer, or make red lights shorter.............all in the name of efficiency. Less fuel used, and greater usage among residents given the infrequent stopping. That's getting money too.

I see the word "hydrogen" on there A LOT! And nothing about fuel efficiency of any kind. There are a lot efficiency upgrades for public buildings at least.

The official website for tracking the stimulus is Recovery.gov. (http://www.recovery.gov/)

Stimuluswatch.org is NOT an accurate website for seeing where the money is spent. Rather, at the top of their website it says: "These projects are not part of the stimulus bill. They are candidates for funding by federal grant programs once the bill passes." So yeah, you can find weird projects, this does not mean they will get all or any of the money listed by their names. But it is entertaining!
