1996 Honda Civic DX Silver Hatch - 48K miles. I bought this car from the original owner in May 2008 and it only had 36k miles on it!! I just got my OBS back on the road so its time for the Honda to find a new home. (The OBS has 4 doors and is MUCH easier to load 2 kids still in car seats into the back).

The front windshield was replaced by the original owner and an o2 sensor. Tires still have some tread left but they are wimpy. The interior is in great shape and includes new generic costco rubber all weather mats! Front AND rear! Woot!

New AC compressor/evap and a new VA inspection (1/09)

I have gotten 40+ mpg mixed so there is no telling what you hypermilers could do.

I also have a basic mpg log that I can transcribe if anyone is interested. Nothing too exciting though. I was able to get over 40 mpg a few times by staying under 65 and being mindful about shift points. The car dosen't have a tachometer so I wasnt very exact since it was all done by ear.

This would be a great car for a hypermiler since everything is manual. Brakes and steering are manual so if you choose to coast and turn the engine off you will not see a dramatic increase in steering/braking effort like you will in a car with power steering etc.

Issues:
- The paint on the hood and roof has faded
- Black trim has faded
- Front and rear bumpers have some fading as well
- The drivers side seat belt sometimes needs to be helped to retract all the way
- The volume knob needs coaxing sometimes. I had the same factory head unit in my 1997 CRV with the same issue. No big deal, just an annoyance.

PROs:
- 100% all original or OEM replacement parts.
- Always adult owned, never raced or riced (Im the second owner)
- Body is super straight
- Interior is as close to flawless as you can get with a 13 year old car.
- Runs great
- Great MPG.

Great car! It's like mine, only the hatch is lighter weight. I believe the gears might be taller, too. Both will give better mileage than mine.

I never did understand what that cubby was for. For a while I had a little gumby-style alien in there, but now it's in my 3-year-old's room and the cubby is empty.

I can't tell what they are. :(

One of them appears to be the back end of an MX5 (Miata), but I can't name the blue "monster." I can't tell if it is a passenger SUV or a work truck from the low res.

The blue one is the front of a Mercedes Unimog and the black one (hard to make out I know) is an Audi A8.

Wow, that's tempting. I'm thinking of getting a car for my daughters. But it's probably a little premature yet. They need to get their driver's licenses first, and that's a few months down the road.

Holy MPG Batman! It looks like from your sig that you were able to get almost 64 MPG from a 96 civic! WOW! Did you use a SCAN tool?

I figured. The pic with the "decorative guard rails" (as I call them) in the median gave it away.

Hmm, I just might do a little kicking. I live and work full time in Chesterfield, but I have a part time job on Staples Mill Rd. I'm working there Monday. My regular (hypermiling) route takes me right by Holton. I'll send you a PM if I decide to drop by.

Yup -- you've got a great car but it's the driver that makes the difference. I can't catch you in my Elantra, but I came close on my last tank. ;)

The rest of the world gets awesome clean burning (and a lot of not so clean burning) diesels. How I would love to have a toyota tdi 4x4 4runner (aka surf). Or a 300 Tdi Landrover Discovery. Imagine 25+ mpg, diesel simplicity ( although the new once are getting as complicated ((more so)) than gas counterparts), torque, etc. That would be awesome!

Or what about W Diesel Polo ... 70 mpg! Imagine what you could do with one of those!

My current dream car is a diesel subaru forester, hopefully 2010 will be the year. But, Im not holding my breath on that one.
