Why is my mileage up and it is still cold?

My mileage is unexpectedly up.
Temperature has not been up enough to account for it.
I would like to think my skills have improved and that is the reason.

More likely I think I got a tank of good gas.
Could summer fuel be starting to ship?
I’m in Minnesota anyone else around here having any unexpected increase in FE?

Mine has been better latly too, I think it is due to the dry roads we have had the last couple of weeks. Less rolling resistance and braking needed than when they were slush snow and i c e.

Maybe you math skills suck and you just think your fe is beter?

The roads have indeed been a bit better lately and that does have a massive impact on FE.

 :D

Short version a puzzle.

3 customers get charged $30 ($10 each)
Bill should have been $25
Sales person finds error and grabs 5 $1’s to return to the customers
The 3 customers are grateful and tip the sales person $2
Leaving the 3 customers $1 each (5-2=3)
Each customer has now paid $9 each

Now less add this up.
We need to end with the $30 that was paid right?
$9 x 3 = $27 (3 customers have now paid $9)
$27 + $2 = $29 (add the $2 tip)

$29 = $30????
maybe the missing $1 went to gas money.

..Or..

maybe it was 3 drunk guys at the bar
$30 paid
$5 return to them
$2 returned to the bar tender for a tip

Add up new numbers
$27 for the $9 Each paid
$2 for a tip
$3 + each person now has $1
===
$32
That’s better! now we made $2 for gas money! :D

Thanks Mike, Sean

Better road conditions makes sense. Due to the better conditions I have also been able to keep my glide speed up around corners better.

I had been having a hard time getting over 34mpg, last two days I have hit trips from 36 to 40mpg.

Note: I Padded my mileage this morning myself.
I could have dropped off my kid at the bus stop for school. But… my mileage has been down, so I said how about I drop you off at school today (8 more miles), it’s cold so she said GREAT. Why did I do it? The 8 extra miles warmed up the engine and I ended up 3-4 mpg over what I had been getting. I padded….

I'm just giving you a hard time. ;) I'm sure those 8 miles didn't make the difference that you're noticing for the tank in question. I think January is much too early for summer gas, but a tank of good gas is reasonable. Did you fill up at a different station or pump than usual? Perhaps the pump gave you a bonus?

THAT IS IT!!
You reminded me.
I filled up at a station I have not filled at for a long time!

Roads may also have a part in it. But I know form experience it is this Gas station.

Grr not this puzzle again. I've done it before but I forgot the fancy answer. Ok so the 3 customers originally paid $30. Then the business figured out they should have only paid $25. So the business takes $5 out of the register. Now the business has only made $25 off of them.

The clerk takes the $5 and goes and gives away $3 to each person, and they give him $2 to keep for himself. So $25+3+2=$30. It's all accounted for.

5/3 is $1.67, so each person tipped the guy 67 cents. The dollar didn't dissapear, just they paid $8.33 each for the room, and $0.67 each for tip, and kept the extra dollar for themselves.

(8.33+0.67+1.00)(3)=30
