Toyota’s pressroom is busy preparing for the release of their latest design of a proven leader in auto design and efficiency.
The record prices of gasoline in the past year have caused much interest in fuel efficiency and Toyota was already at work on improving a stellar performer.
Few details have been leaked in the past several weeks and the enlistment of The Blue Man Group (cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18389) to promote the release has led to much speculation as to the features of the new 2010 Toyota Prius III.
Those interested can go to the Toyota USA Newsroom and sign up for--http://pressroom.toyota.com/pr/tms/default.aspx

Hi Mark:
___Am reading your sentiments correctly? You hope the Prius-III has an EV Mode up to 62 mph and at least a 10,000 R real world allowance for MG1 :D
___Good Luck

Right Lane Cruiser 01-08-2009, 05:31 PM Marc... ME TOO!!!
locutus 01-09-2009, 08:35 PM BEST. BIRTHDAY PRESENT. EVER.
I'll be watching. :D
JusBringIt 01-09-2009, 08:40 PM this is exciting!
diamondlarry 01-09-2009, 08:53 PM You know what would be great? EV mode up to 62mph (MG1 10k RPMs).:p That would make for a whole new level of SHM.:D
hobbit 01-09-2009, 09:07 PM I just hope to heck they make the video 'cast available in some
genuinely accessible, STANDARD format. Toyota traditionally
hasn't been very good at catering to anything other than the
microsoft world. Anyone have more experience with how they do
such things and can give more hints on what to expect, or what
tools one might need to make this work?

msirach 01-09-2009, 11:31 PM EV mode and a factory sunroof! It gets even better!
Nevyn 01-10-2009, 12:14 AM EV mode and a factory sunroof! It gets even better!
:p:p Yea......cuz opening those things increases FE by a long shot.
JusBringIt 01-10-2009, 12:39 AM you're saving the environment, might as well be able to look at it.
Nevyn 01-10-2009, 12:53 AM Or have it poop in your nice shiny new car! :p
hobbit 01-10-2009, 11:15 AM No, a sunroof is so you can huck a big ol' loogie straight up and
have it nail the windshield of the truck that's less than a second
behind you.

JusBringIt 01-10-2009, 08:48 PM So I have a use for my sunroof?? SWEET!
SentraSE-R 01-10-2009, 10:57 PM ??? I thought you were all worried the new Prius is going to be an overweight and overpriced luxury car with too much computer control limiting your hypermiling efforts ;)
Right Lane Cruiser 01-10-2009, 11:44 PM ??? I thought you were all worried the new Prius is going to be an overweight and overpriced luxury car with too much computer control limiting your hypermiling efforts ;)
It may very well be, but we are still excited about it and hey... there will be used models at some point! ;)
JusBringIt 01-10-2009, 11:49 PM as long as we have new, we will have used..I'm sure someone will want to test drive and once the odo flips over .1, that's it.
From Toyota News Room (http://pressroom.toyota.com/pr/tms/toyota/TYT2008121293196.aspx): The press conference will be held on Monday, January 12 at 11:30
AM Eastern Time in the Riverview Ballroom in COBO Center and simulcast live to
the Toyota display area at the show. A video clip of the press conference will
be available for viewing following the event on the Toyota.com website.
I am now a sad panda.
msirach 01-12-2009, 11:33 AM W.e are watching it now in Detroit !
W.e are watching it now in Detroit !
Live or on the internets?
Edit: found it streaming on a different source but the dam proxy at work is blocking it anyway.
krousdb 01-12-2009, 11:50 AM 50 MPG combined.
hobbit 01-12-2009, 11:53 AM There is no streaming link on the toyota pressroom site that I
can find, only the "video will be available afterward" stuff.
.
And Priuschat is hopelessly unresponsive right now.

_H*For me, I can't get into PC at all. :(
mparrish 01-12-2009, 11:57 AM Just watched it.
No mention about any changes to EV mode.
Apparently the solar roof is optional, and will not run the AC but will instead run a fan ventilation system to keep the car cooler when parked in the open sun. Just sell me the panel for my roof instead ;). I prefer my cheaper method of windshield sunshade and mild sweating. ;)
Optional LED headlights.
"Lower RPMs at highway speed with larger 1.8L engine and more efficient & smaller hybrid components" Don't know how they pull that off.
Actually not much longer, wider, or taller than the current Gen..........within an inch either way. Outside is sleaker and inside has 5 more cubic feet of space.
0-60 in 9.8 seconds.......slightly faster.
"Our owners demand more power and more efficiency". I don't know any of these people. :)
If EV mode is upped AND highway RPMS are lower, it will be interesting to see if city mileage continues to outstrip highway. 50/50/50?
Good stuff.
"Only the Prius HSD allows for plug-in hybrid capability". Then give me a plug sillies.
Damionk 01-12-2009, 12:01 PM For what it's worth I found this link to the 2010 prius. I didn't read it myself though.
http://pressroom.toyota.com/pr/tms/toyota/all-new-prius-reveal.aspx
ETA: I realized later that Wayne had posted a news item about this just 2 min prior.
mparrish 01-12-2009, 12:12 PM The Hummerchat servers are still up, FYI.............;)
mparrish 01-12-2009, 12:14 PM Deep Thought:
Who will be the first hypermiler to register a 1000 mile Prius III all highway tank? :)
Chuck 01-12-2009, 12:17 PM The Hummerchat servers are still up, FYI.............;)And no doubt off-roading forums. One of them had a YouTube of a Jeep raping a forest in N Calif? Playing Death Metal too...kind of appropiate since Jeep and Chrysler will probably die as an independant company this year.
hobbit 01-12-2009, 12:31 PM Now there's a pointer to the reveal speech (http://pressroom.toyota.com/pr/tms/toyota/2010-prius-reveal-speech.aspx?ncid=12067), but still no
video, even though they mention others "watching it live".
.
It's got me really curious how the exhaust heat and exhaust gas recirc
is done... one hallmark of the Prius engine setup to date is that it
*doesn't* have any EGR plumbing, I hope they didn't change that because
it's going to be a serious reliability hit if they added it.
