View Full Version : Going for the 1,000 mile barrier (again)
Hot Georgia 08-24-2006, 05:56 PM I only have a few tanks left before cooler weather sets in- and chances to reach that 1,000 mile barrier which has always escaped me. A few tanks ago I only missed it by 17 miles!
Anyway today I'm at 465 miles and down 5 bars of fuel (Have 3/4 tank). So far despite brief heavy daily rains and some wind problems- luck has been with me according to my FDD, which sits at 70 point something for that 465 miles.
"I think I can, I think I can, I think I can, I think I can "
Yes, I can and will! (Positive thinking, right?)

Hi Steve:
___I am standing right behind you even though I am well over 600 miles away. Just keep pushing as you have a great start and I have no doubt will have a great finish. What I am really glad to hear is that you are still finding out that the HCH still has more left in her and that alone is worth telling the world about!
___Good Luck

lakedude 08-24-2006, 10:10 PM Good luck! Always nice to have another member in the "club". Did you overfill?
Hot Georgia 08-24-2006, 10:37 PM Did you overfill?
Yes, I almost always jam to the rim.
Thanks for the encouragement!
Hot Georgia 08-31-2006, 05:05 PM I've read other reports of stormy weather and I'm also getting pounded, starting last night.
Several inches of rain & high wind slowed me down drastically last night on the way home and it took and additional +30 minutes.
At least the weather kept most people off the road, those who would otherwise be driving at 3:30AM.
In the end came out short at about 64MPG.
Heavy storms, wrecks and associated jams again for my afternoon commute but came out to about 63MPG. Traffic didn't seem to mind much slower speed for the weather.
Looks like I'll be very, very close to my goal. If this soup keeps up I probably won't make it.
Perhaps this will be the 1st time I carry a can of fuel.
I'm 865 miles out and only 5 bars left of fuel.(1/4 tank) Typically it works down to 1-2 bars then jumps up again so we'll see.
My dash for those miles is down to 70.0MPG
Last night a bolt of lightning struck something so close to me that I felt the concusion!
That was rather un-nerving!

Hot Georgia 09-06-2006, 06:32 AM Great to have the website up and running again, it seems to load alot faster than before!
I've posted this around the net, but have anxiously waited to post here (really) that indeed I did exceed my goal:
I filled up on Sep. 02 after driving 1,003.4 miles and jammed 13.4 gallons to the rim again for 74.9MPG which smashes all my previous records! I really feel this as an accomplishment and training for this event since Feb'04.
:bananajump:
The tank showed completely empty at 992 miles and have driven ~25 miles showing empty on previous tanks but didn't want to risk running out for heading out the next day.
My current tank has moved two bars off of full and passed almost 400 miles, dash says 74 point something MPG which is higher than this point on the last tank so I'll have to see how it goes.
I think I'm getting the hang of it.

dcoyne78 09-15-2006, 11:14 AM Steve,
Great job!! I am working on a record tank (for me) in my Prius, I think 1000 miles is out of reach for me because I don't overfill, I may break 800 if I can keep it up, I am at 84.9 mpg at 487.3 miles, 900 is a possibility, but 1000 is a stretch with a 12 gallon tank. Keep up the great work, the temps in Georgia should be good for some record tanks thru Nov 1 up here in central Maine the weather is a tad colder, so I will be left far behind, hopefully I can manage a few more tanks in the 60s before it gets really cold. Keep up the great tanks.
Dennis
Hot Georgia 09-15-2006, 04:40 PM Thanks dennis.
I used to quit filling at the first click-off and my range was also around 700-800 miles as I recall. My next tank is going to be "less than spectacular" as my wife is also driving it now for a while.
I've heard the Prius has a tank bladder which also limits capacity but 85MPG at almost 500 miles? Sheeeesh that's incredible and an honor to be on the same board here :Banane13:

dcoyne78 09-15-2006, 07:27 PM Thanks Steve,
I'm just trying to keep up with you and Lake Dude, can't imagine what Dan K would be getting on his prius, 75 mpg in a non hybrid, crazy!
