View Full Version : How's your Monday?
brick 08-21-2006, 06:20 AM This is just a little experiment that I thought we ought to try at least once. What I'm thinking is to try to have one daily thread for each day's routine updates. If you think it's worth a shot, then give it a shot. If you (particularly the moderating and administrating types) think this is a waste of forum space and we should just go on as we have so far, let's just do that! My reasoning is that I like to post my numbers for the day, but sometimes feel silly posting a whole new thread to do it. Likewise I like to hear how you all are doing, and don't want anybody to feel bashful. :)
Of course, I would think the really big accomplishments should be in their own threads where they can be recognized!
Anyway, I'll start off with my morning ride, which was among the best I've had this tank. I left at a normal time but wasn't hassled by anybody for most of the way in. (In fact, I wasn't really "hassled" at all, and was basically alone for the first half.) I did a little more DWL than usual, and keyed-off 5 or 6 times. End result: 43.4mpg
psyshack 08-21-2006, 08:06 AM Bad morning in. No issues with other drivers. The Civic just wouldnt get up on its mpg game. Lots of FAS and low speeds. Couldnt get above 48 mpg.
hawkgt647 08-21-2006, 09:58 AM It was one of those segments that felt bad - the FCD just didn't want to jump up like it normally does.
I let the speed drop off during the first few miles, trying to hold 100 MPG on the iFCD. But when the speed fell below 35 MPH, I had to reset my iFCD target to 75-80 MPG to keep the momentum going.
Came up on a dually pickup and got a distant draft. Tried a couple of FAS's to boost the average, but it was a little low at 79.2 MPG when I pulled into the parking lot at work. I normally see 83-85 MPG. This is the beginning of a new tank - it's not starting out good.
I need to check tire pressure when I get home, it feels sluggish. Or is that my imagination?
tbaleno 08-21-2006, 10:14 AM I had a poor segment this morning. Temps were about 20F lower than normal. I ended up around 51mpg for the segment. Normaly I'd be around 54.
tarabell 08-21-2006, 10:35 AM I barely made 60mpg on this morning's segment. I always seem to have a poor Monday lately because I don't use my car all weekend (avoiding short trips) and it sits. So Mondays are a very cold start for me.
philmcneal 08-21-2006, 12:35 PM i got a day off :D no need to drive today hehe.... well i have to go to wal mart later so... i hope i don't get mixed in the rush... i'll edit this post my results after my drive.
edit:
6.8 miles, two complete stops (meaning i got out of the car), 40.8 mpg (first two trips was 38.7 mpg, and on the way home i netted 50 mpg to settle the score)
TonyPSchaefer 08-21-2006, 12:40 PM As I coasted to a red light, an Olds Aurora sped past me in the other lane and whipped into my lane, slamming on his brakes to stop behind the other cars. So I natuarally went from gliding to regenerative coasting to shed a few more MPHs since my coasting distance had shrunken by one car. No problems yet.
The light turned green.
My timing was perfect. The car in front of the Olds started moving and I should have just come up on him as he took off. But he sat there.
Just sat there.
He sat there as the car in front of him sped away through the intersection and I approached from behind. I lightly applied my brakes. Then more. Then finally stomped my brakes coming to a complete stop what felt like inches from his bumper. As soon as I was completely stopped, he squeeled (yes, barking the tires) through the intersection and again started bobbing and weaving through the traffic.
I was blindingly obvious that his one and only goal was to make me stop and not allow me to coast through the light.
Can I "ass" on this forum?
Hi Tim:
___I think this is a great idea so let us see how it plays out?
___I myself had to head to the doc this morning for X-Rays and another checkup. Since the wife was in the Phoenix area yesterday and is now in San Francisco, I thought I might take the MDX out given I was thinking about trading it in for a fully loaded TCH or Prius II for the wife … Came close at the Waukegan Toyota dealership but the TIV’s are a bit to low for my blood. While I was at the Libertyville Toyota dealership, I decided to take a non-NAVI TCH out for a ride to see what it had to offer. Without the NAVI and the accompanying energy and consumption screens, you are really flying blind. The only item of merit is the 45 mpg bar was pegged and it said EXCELLENT when I pulled back into the parking lot. What a total waste of a gauge package :( The 06 Prius I test drove had leather and NAVI w/ the new backup camera (I liked that). The 5 mile test around Libertyville ended at 94.x mpg. They have to order what I (I mean my wife wants in Red w/ gray leather interior and NAVI) so there is no rush there other then the looming September 30 tax credit/incentive cutoff date.
___Anyway, the afternoon local commuting traffic started taking its toll in the MDX as I was traveling in heavier and more congested commuter traffic as the afternoon wore on … I was sitting at 35.1 about 30 minutes before I finally reached home. The final although not bad sure wasn’t anything to write home about.

___And if anyone hasn’t noticed over the years, I take pics about as good as a monkey paints a Picasso. Sorry about that ;)
___Good Luck
___Wayne
diamondlarry 08-21-2006, 06:29 PM It sounds like I may be the exception for today. On my way to take my wife to work, the 5.86 mile segment came in at 54.* The trip to my shop was a bit lower at 49.* over 9.1 miles. Mostly highway miles and not as much opportunity for FAS and traffic too heavy for effective P&G. The trip to pick the wife up this afternoon was much better though. I took an alternate route(mostly county roads) and ended up just shy of 60 mpg. :woot:
diamondlarry 08-21-2006, 07:00 PM I had to put some hydraulic fluid in my clutch so I went out for a run around the mile to see if it was working. 4.1 miles with 63.3 mpg by the time I got turned around in my driveway.:D
tbaleno 08-21-2006, 09:13 PM On the way home I did great. Until I stopped at the honda dealer and had my transmision fluid changed. Not only did they drop my current segment from 60mpg down to 35mpg, they also stole the coins I was saving in my cupholder.
I will never go there again. I'm running out of honda dealers to get work done on my car.
Hot Georgia 08-21-2006, 11:13 PM Tom that's terrible service from those Honda dealers!
I did pretty much my usual heading into work this afternoon, I think it came to around 68MPG.
I'm going for that 1,000 mile tank as I only have a few more chances before the cooler weather arrives.
Sledge 08-22-2006, 06:49 AM How was my Monday? OK. I refuelled which put my last tank at 57.4 mpg which is OK. I had to make a quick trip to the store last night for some tomatoes so right now my tank has 35 or so miles on it at around 63 mpg. Of course it'll drop like a rock before the end of today. That's how it works
