2007 TCH most online studied automobile leads to increased sales.
COSTA MESA, Calif. - NADAguides.com experts recently analyzed the vehicle information consumers researched on the company's Web site and then compared these results to actual sales data. The results of this analysis found that there is a correlation between what types of vehicles consumers are researching and what they actually purchase.
For example, NADAguides.com executives said consumer attention to the hybrid section of the Web site grew significantly from the first to second quarter, up 1,200 percent. More specifically, executives said the 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid captured the most consumer attention in the second quarter, garnering 9 percent of the Web site's total traffic. In second place was the 2007 Toyota Camry, with almost 3 percent of total site traffic.
Comparing these statistics to sales data, executives discovered that sales of the 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid increased an average of 1,734 percent during the months of April, May and June this year.
Moreover, according to Toyota, the Toyota division of passenger cars posted an all-time, best-ever monthly sales record in April and May, with the Toyota Camry posting a 3.3 percent sales climb in April and 3.6 percent in May, compared to the previous year. As for June, combined sales for the Camry, Solara and Camry Hybrid were up 9.8 percent over the same time frame a year ago, making it Toyota's best June ever, executives said.
"These findings support the fact that there are definite correlations between the cars people research and the cars people actually buy," explained Mark Perleberg, lead auto expert for NADAguides.com.
"What's more, the significant increase in shoppers researching hybrid vehicle information at our site underscores the growing popularity of vehicles designed with fuel economy in mind," he continued. "As fuel prices continue their ascent, shoppers are looking for and ultimately purchasing vehicles they can actually afford to buy -- and more importantly -- afford to own over the long haul."
Perleberg went on to say that he expects hybrid sales to remain strong throughout the rest of this year and into 2007.
While NADAguides.com said the hybrid category on its site experienced the largest increase in traffic in the second quarter, the company pointed out that, overall, the most visited category at the New Car Center on the site was four-door sedans. This area captured nearly one-third of the traffic to the new car section, about 30 percent in the second quarter, compared to 24 percent in the first quarter.
Additionally, executives said despite the interest in hybrids and four-door sedans, the SUV category also remained strong, pulling in about 17 percent of the total traffic to the site, making this the second most researched vehicle segment. Topping the list in SUV research popularity was the Toyota FJ Cruiser.
Citing recent reports, NADAguides.com executives said sales of the Toyota FJ Cruiser, which debuted in March, came in at 18,685 units in the second quarter, increasing 18 percent from April to May. However, executives noted that these sales declined 5 percent from 6,670 units in May to 6,366 in June.
"SUVs remain a popular choice simply because consumer mindset doesn't change overnight -- it evolves over time," Perleberg said. "I believe we'll begin to see a shift away from interest in SUVs as hybrid vehicles evolve and as automakers create vehicles that combine the best of both worlds -- the economical attributes of the hybrids with the roominess, power and safety of SUVs."
According to NADAguides.com, the most researched vehicles in each category on the site were:
New vehicle: Toyota Camry Hybrid
Four-door sedan: Toyota Camry Hybrid
SUV: Toyota FJ Cruiser
Luxury vehicle: Lexus ES 350
Two-door coupe: Ford Mustang
Pickup: Ford F-150
Sports/convertible: Ford Mustang
