took your advice and tried FASing. good night for it, there was almost nobody on the road i took home. i also got it into lean burn a lot, which i figured out that i do most of the time. i keep it in the highest gear i can without lugging it, and then it rides at about the 80MPG mark.

thanks for the tips!!!

ok, let me ask a question.....when i am done FASing, once or twice i forgot the engine was off, and i just let the clutch out. it started with no problem, like the old days when we used to push start cars. it slipped into gear pretty easily. is that hard on the transmission?

Hi Laurie:

___Good debate on this and from most of the manual tranny experts but if you do clutch start, bring her up softly (5th gear at around 30 mph max is pretty soft). IMA starts on the other hand are far smother and the right way to start a Honda hybrid imho so that is how I would restart the Insight after a FAS 95% of the time. Having an Accord with Auto (non-hybrid), I do not have any other choice but to use the gear-reduction starter. With the manual equipped Ranger, 25% Clutch starts and 75% starter is about my average as of late.

___As long as you have a high SoC, I would bring your HCH-I up under IMA via key because it is absolutely by far the smoothest way to start her up without question.

___Good Luck

ok, i finished up this tank with 63.86MPG. i found that the farther into the tank i got, the harder it was to get up to 70, even with FASing. however, since my summer average is hiding just below an even 60, i am very pleased. i had to make a long work related drive yesterday, in which i had to go faster than i would have liked, and that affected it somewhat.......

Expect results about 10-15% over Laurie's best run soon....
