Someone said that Wayne Gerdes presented a comparison of hybrid car ownership vs. other non-hybrid cars at HybridFest (not sure what year). I have looked in the Files section here and asked my friend Google, but no luck so far.

Can anyone point me to the presentation?

You need to contact Wayne ( xcel (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/member.php?u=3) ).

I better add the reason he does not put it online is he does not want others to use that infromation without permission....not saying you would at all - but rather he guards it very well.

Hi Skider..,

The presentation, but not the paper handout (which he discusses) were on You Tube.

With Gas Prices at 50 % of what they were when it was prepared, there might be some economics differences now.

And hybrid car TCO is more than gas consumption. The electric braking modes save on friction brake wear. Which in a metropolitan driving enviorment is considerable savings. Some hybrid architectures do away with the starter and alternator, which further saves on maintenance.

So, one has to do a bet on gas prices. Although with $4/ga gas, the clear value champ was the Prius, with the HCH II coming in a close second.

Its hard to say what Resale will be on hybrids in five years. In the past five years its been excellent. Remember, resale is based on the value left in the car. So, if its low maintenance, and the new owner can expect little in maintenance costs, the car will have a higher resale price. An engine that gets used at half the RPM, or half the time will last twice the miles. Which is essentially why the Prius has high resale.

The HCH II is the better highway mileage car. The Prius is the better Metropolitan area mileage car. The Insight II will probably be similar to the HCH II.
