While I was enjoying my free day in LA yesterday, I decided to go have some fun and drove over to Santa Monica, not more than 12 miles away from Tarabell's house in LA. After much searching, I found a FREE parking garage to use while I wandered around the Promenade and watched the ocean. To my surprise, right across the aisle was this little area designated for EVs only! It must be a remnant of the 1990's CARB Zero-Emission-Vehicle mandate which sadly went away. You certainly don't see this kind of thing in the Midwest.

It even had a charger for the EVs to use while parked! How convenient!

But the funny and ironic thing is, guess who is parked there. The owner even put a note on the back windshield that said, "this car is half-electric."

Just as I got back into the car to leave, this parking enforcement officer just happened to come through. Apparently "half-electric" isn't good enough.

sweet....wonder if you had parked a plugin prius there would you have gotten a ticket?

It would set the precedent I assume. (of course only if it were plugged in)

I guess half electric correlates with the half wit owner of that car.

Or, maybe (s)he's just half-fast!

For the first time, a parked hybrid ticketed because it's not green enough to be an LEV!

Wonder if you plugged in a EBH would the security guy have known the difference that it wasn't a EV.

Next, people will be rigging their plain old gas powered cars with badges indicating they are electric and rig fake plugins to the side. Parking wars indeed!
