How many of us go out and buy the cheapest Water Hose and the Cheapest Cleaning Mitten to Wash our New Beloved Vehicles?

Come on and Admit it? We spend all this Money for our New or Used vehicle and then all of a sudden become the Cheapest People on this Planet when it comes to buying really Great Things to Wash, Wax, Polish, Detail, Etc. our Vehicles.

I have been using dawn dishwashing liquid forever to clean my cars. Works great. Hand wax every 3-6 months and the finish stays good as new. My vehicles are primarily for transportation, not for show. I spend about $6 (not counting the water) a year on 3 cars to keep them clean and thier finishes in good shape. Some people (me included) can't justify the cost of perfection. :-)

I'll go with you on the 'price / time justification' - as anal as I am about my cars, it's a wonder I'm not a Zaino freak... :eek:

However, I wanted to mention that Dawn will strip the wax from your car - you may want to consider a car wash detergent solution that's formulated not to remove wax. I have a bottle of Turtle Wax (?) detergent for this purpose. It's concentrated, so it just takes a capful or two per quart of water. I think it cost me somewhere around $5 at the local auto parts store, and the bottle is enough to last me for years, to be honest (I don't hand wash in the winter, at all - it's either a spray wash with the pressurized wand, to get the salt off, or (usually) a good hand wash by a professional car wash (about $12 for a good outside wash / interior vacuum).

In the cases where you want to remove the layers of wax buildup, Dawn is one of the *best* products you can use for this. But to preserve your efforts applying the wax, and the protection it affords the finish, you may want to consider another cleaning solution. Just my .02...

Oh, and while I'm at it... I can vouch for Wayne's cars. They're among the cleanest examples I've seen, for the mileage they have. His Insight, when I was up close & personal with it, looked like it had just rolled off the showroom floor. The only wear I could detect, when I drove it, was on the steering wheel. The rest of the car looked practically showroom new.

Not only does the man put my mileage accomplishments to shame, he takes care of his cars better than I do :o
