View Full Version : Canon SD1100 IS - $120.41 shipped
Hi All:
___Since my Canon A590 IS was ripped off after just one week of ownership by some contractors I had in the house (2) months ago, I had to purchase a replacement. Instead of the A590 IS, I purchased a PowerShot SD1100 IS pocket camera this time around.

___To get this price, I followed a Fat Walleter’s Hot Deal from HSN. Refresh, refresh, refresh… and repeat again until the Silver bodies SD1100 IS shows up at $129.95 and apply the 15% Coupon code: C71852 at check out.
Link to the HSN SD1100 IS (http://www.fatwallet.com/redirect/bounce.php?afsrc=1&url=http://electronics.hsn.com/canon-powershot-sd1100-is-8mp-3x-digital-camera_m-10040072_xp.aspx?web_id=4212380&ocm=sekw).
___I hope I did not make a mistake but the price was so good I could not resist. Let me know what you all think as I believe I can still cancel this order since it will not be shipped until November 4th if this was a bad buy.
___Thanks in advance.
___Wayne

Fantastic price. I've been very happy with the Digital Elph series. I bought myself a Powershot SD600 (a digital elph the same size as the SD1100) a few years ago and it has been a very rugged and indispensable little gadget for me.
Hi Hadi:
___Have you been happy with the pic quality when not in a perfect outdoor light situation?
___Thanks in advance.
___Good Luck

brick 10-26-2008, 10:40 AM These little Canon cameras are great. My first Canon (c. 2002) had some serious issues with low light levels and was virtually useless without good light. The SD600 I'm using now doesn't give me any of those problems.

You scared me - just a glance at that title - you know what I was thinking? ;)

laurieaw 10-26-2008, 11:45 AM i read the review and it looks good, wayne. i like that it has image stabilization, and 8MP resolution is right up there with my canon slr. i have always been happy with the products, and bought them for use at work also.

The image quality of any non-SLR digital camera is going to suffer in low-lighting situations, and some cameras are affected more than others. My SD600 is no exception; the flash makes it possible to take high-quality pictures of most things at close ranges (less than fifteen feet, for example) when it's totally dark out. Otherwise, if you wanted to take a picture of something like a city skyline from a distance, or a dark building from across the street, you'll probably be disappointed. Photo retouching with software is always available but I never do that.
The image quality of a Digital Elph generally will not be as good as that from a full-size full-frame camera, but the saving grace is that you can take the Elph along with you, anywhere, and the nice big camera stays at home on the shelf collecting dust. To paraphrase another line of items, the Elph you take with you sure beats the SLR you leave at home. :)
rweatherford 10-26-2008, 01:17 PM I really like my Fuji F-31FD for lower light stuff. I take lots of pictures indoors with no flash.
There is now a new version that is reviewing well. F-50FD

LOL sounds like DF has something he needs to confess :).
I haven't been able to break the SD1100 at work yet, so it is probably fairly rugged. Our pictures look OK, but we're always outdoors in daylight YMMV.
voodoo22 10-26-2008, 04:52 PM You can't go wrong with Canon digital camera's. You'll be happy with your purchase Wayne.
Chuck 10-26-2008, 05:06 PM LOL sounds like DF has something he needs to confess :).I could tell you all about the moderator's priviliges and procedures, but then I'd have to kill you. :p
Forum software like vBulletin allows the Admins to tailor the priviliges of admins, moderators, general members, and classes in between. Priviliges vary from site to site.
For example, other sites limit your rights the first ten posts, to weed out spammers and trollers by not allowing them to send PMs, etc.
I do have this thing about WTH spammers are sooo obsessed to make a one-time post that's going down in minutes - how could it be worth it? I've commented in the past the spammer must be some perv that experiences gratification posting his junk (think of the deli scene (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/When_Harry_Met_Sally...#Deli_scene) in When Harry Met Sally)
Kacey Green 10-26-2008, 05:34 PM I was thinking the same thing about the title, but this seems like a great deal. I'm keeping an eye out so that when my current budget point and shoot cam has had enough shutter events I'll be able to make a wise decision.
hobbit 10-27-2008, 01:47 AM No full manual mode? Hmm... for me, that would be a problem
since that's usually what I shoot in so I have full control over
the light/shadow compromise I usually have to make. Anything
with IS will do way better at longer exposures, either way..
