Prius owners are Toyota brand loyal.
Westlake Village, Calif. - Power Information Network officials recently reported that hybrid owners tend to be very loyal in terms of brand and manufacturer, in addition to announcing the top-selling models for consumers 25 and younger.
According to PIN, almost three out of four Prius owners trade their units in for another Toyota vehicle.
"An even higher percentage (of Prius owners) trade for another vehicle within the Toyota Motor Corp. family of brands," explained PIN executives. "Both results are the highest rates among all Toyota nameplate vehicles."
Looking specifically at retention rates when it comes to Prius owners, consumers who trade in their hybrid for the same brand is 41.9 percent, while the automaker's brand-level retention rate is 74.3 percent and the corporation-level retention rate is 78.2 percent.
Meanwhile, owners of all three Honda hybrids also tend to be more loyal than the typical Honda driver. Six out of every 10 owners of a Civic Hybrid and Accord Hybrid trade for another Honda or Acura, PIN executives reported.
Specifically, the number of Civic Hybrid owners who trade their units in for the same type comes in at 30.6 percent, while those who trade their hybrid in for a model from the same brand is 59.2 percent. Moreover, Honda's corporate-level retention rates for Civic Hybrid owners is 60.6 percent.
PIN executives also announced the top-selling models for buyers 25 and younger for the second quarter:
1. Scion tC
2. Hyundai Tiburon
3. Acura RSX
4. Subaru Impreza
5. Mazda 3
6. Volkswagen GTI
7. Mazda 6
8. Mitsubishi Lancer
9. Toyota Yaris
10. Chevrolet Cobalt
"The list of models in the second quarter of this year with the highest percent of buyers 25 years old and younger is remarkably similar to the list from the same quarter a year ago," PIN executives pointed out.
"Nine of the 10 models on the list this year are repeats," they continued. "Only the Neon has dropped off, replaced by the Yaris. And the addition of the Yaris has dropped representation of the domestics down to just one model, the Cobalt. The Scion tC tops the list in both quarters, and its proportion of young buyers - greater than one-third - is far above that for any other model."
