View Full Version : Deep-fried pizza in Chicago or N Illinois
Shiba3420 10-24-2008, 11:42 AM Knowing how many people at this site are from this area, I'd thought I'd ask.
Does anyone know of locations around here that serve deep-fried pizza? Preferably in the Scottish style with the thing folded in half around chips (that french-fries for you domestic only folks).
Thanks!
Skwyre7 10-24-2008, 11:44 AM It's a good thing you posted this right before my lunch break. It sounds delicious! If you find a good place, and I ever get to Chicago, I'll have to give it a try.
93Hatch 10-24-2008, 01:24 PM LOL, in Chicago? You might get strung up for asking that! I know that I really enjoyed the Chicago style from Pizza Hut some time back.
Shiba3420 10-24-2008, 01:45 PM Oh man...Chicago style from Pizza Hut...now that's going to get you strung up.
Chicago is a happy pizza place. We have all kinds of good pizza. Traditional wood fired pizza-margarita usually fired off in under 10 minutes to double deep dish when has to cook over an hour. Lots of mom & pops delivering great, good, fair, poor, bad, i-guess-im-hungry-enough-for-a-slice, and food poisening pizzas. Some big chains, but we frown down on them while still ordering them for delivery & take out all the time. Somewhere there must be room for deep-fried pizza, although I'm told the best stuff comes from fish & chip shops.
Chicago is the capital city of pizza. There's only one reason to go to Chicago and it's to get Chicago pizza.
Now I'm saying this while only having been exposed to Giordano's pizza, which locals probably turn their nose up on, but it really left an impression with me. Mm, mmm.
msirach 10-24-2008, 02:13 PM There's a pretty good selection on "The Hill" in St. Louis too.

Well I wouldn't have known about Chicago style at all if it weren't for Pizza Hut! I'd love to have the real thing though. I've had what some people call NY style and Sicilian style. I honestly don't care for them all that much. I have many decent pizza places to choose from in my area.
Stromboli (essentially a rolled up Pizza) is a good switch, and many places here make a good one!
Chuck 10-24-2008, 03:21 PM I'm suprized they didn't offer this at the Texas State Fair....they had fried everything else.
PookieSoup 10-24-2008, 03:41 PM I was in Chicago this Summer, and I tried several pizza places. I loved Giordano's. I have a whole frozen one in my freezer. :o)
99HXCivic 11-04-2008, 10:37 PM Hey, Chicago is the place to get a good cheap gyro too!
PookieSoup 11-05-2008, 12:01 AM I won't be in Chicago, France, or Italy for a very long time, however, I found this pizza recipe. I'm going to recreate it this weekend. Mmmmmmmmm......... Pizza!

Shiba3420 11-05-2008, 08:18 AM Man, that looks good. Can't try it this weekend, but maybe next.
Never did find any place that makes deep fried pizza, however deep dish pizza is plentiful & we have several excelent places within 30 minutes of the house. There is a great thin crust, wood fired place only about 10 minutes away. Pizaa!Pizaa!Pizaa!Pizaa!Pizaa!Pizaa!Pizaa!

Is that near the Bud brewery....does anyone there know if there is a limit on how many times a day, week, or month that you can take their tour and get a couple of free drinks at the end?:Banane33::Banane32::Banane21::Banane09:

the hill is a little way down I44 from the brewery
no limit on how often you can take the tour to my knowledge, although I would imagine they might say something to you if they noticed you there a few times a day
93Hatch 11-06-2008, 03:41 PM I would love to find a place with deep fried pizza in my part of VA.
