View Full Version : How many miles a week do you drive?
bomber991 10-22-2008, 12:27 AM Oh yeah, it's time for a 25 choice poll, just cause.
Anyways for me, if I actually go to school all the time by driving, and work, then the most miles I'm required to drive is 404 miles a week.
Now if I take the bus for school all week, I can cut my weekly driven miles down to a maximum of 238 miles.
The reason for the large number of miles? I live out in a suburb, and all my school classes are right in the downtown portion or relatively close to it. And for my job, I just deliver pizzas on Fridays and Saturdays. Seem to do 80 miles a night doing that crap. Just for another month or two though and then no more of that.
warthog1984 10-22-2008, 01:14 AM anywhere from 150/week if its just the short way into work, up to 500+/week depending on site visits and errands.
AlphabetBackward 10-22-2008, 01:24 AM ~20.1 miles to work.
~21 miles to home.
So ~200 miles a week.
I used to drive 150 a week but now I drive to school since I volunteer there (and hope to get a job) instead of taking the bus partway.
lamebums 10-22-2008, 01:58 AM 10.2 miles to class, 13.7 coming back (different route that avoids potholes and a crappy uphill merge). That's the bare minimum so about 140 miles a week.
That doesn't count coffees, lottery tickets, beer runs, parties, the gym, and on and on.
It's closer to 200 miles a week, sometimes 300 if it involves a lot of running around.
I-75 south going into Cincinnati is absolutely atrocious in the far right lane, what with the number of potholes in the road and 70+ PSI.
WoodyWoodchuck 10-22-2008, 07:29 AM 60.1 miles a day commute to work and back. It was 10 miles round trip to work when I bought the place but things change. That makes it 301 to 350 miles a week.
I try to incorporate shopping in the commute, stop on the way home to get groceries, supplies and such. This makes an additional 2 to 6 miles to any given day. Only weekend driving is 14.5 miles round trip to the landfill once a month. I compost, recycle and purchase wisely. It is amazing how much you can cut down on garbage by just watching what you buy and how it is packaged. I try not to make any unplanned trips anywhere. Being single it’s easier than with a family! If I forget to buy milk or something on Friday, well then I do without until Monday. Can’t do that with children.
Bottom line, I drive as little as possible and incorporate multiple chores into one trip as much as possible.
voodoo22 10-22-2008, 08:02 AM One of the major reasons I traded in the 3 series for a Yaris was my commute grew from less than 3 miles round trip to over 64 miles round trip. I put on about 350 a week normally.
Skwyre7 10-22-2008, 08:02 AM 12 miles to work, 12 miles back home. 5 days a week, every third week (thanks to carpooling). = 120 miles/3 weeks
9 miles to baby sitter's, 9 miles home. 5 days a week, every week. = 270 miles/3 weeks
(120 miles/3 weeks) + (270 miles/3 weeks) = 390 miles/3 weeks = 130 miles/week.
PaleMelanesian 10-22-2008, 08:06 AM < 150 a week. An office move a couple months ago saved me from the >150 category. It also bumped me up to monthly (or longer) fill-up intervals.
laurieaw 10-22-2008, 08:38 AM it's about 16 miles to work. a little more if i go out to lunch, or stop on the way home to shop. i try to get things done during the week, and then, since i am on the property with my horse, i generally don't drive at all on the weekend. that is sweet. :D before i moved i would sometimes drive to the barn both days on the weekend, and that alone was 200 miles.
brick 10-22-2008, 08:40 AM I factored in my vacation driving for the year, so I average ~350mi/wk even though commuting is maybe 225mi. Living 1,000mi away from family doesn't help things.
Right Lane Cruiser 10-22-2008, 08:51 AM I know how you feel, Tim. Mine are about 1300mi away. In fact, they are in Spartanburg so you're a lot closer than I am.
jdhog 10-25-2008, 10:15 PM I do about 150miles a week, about 125 of those is to work and back. I'm glad I don't do the newspaper delivery thing anymore in the evening that was hell on my old VW Golf, bless her.
MT bucket 10-25-2008, 10:35 PM Im at around 1000 miles a week!:o
jcp123 10-25-2008, 11:11 PM I average about 120 miles/week, but BOTH of our work vans EACH average around 1800/wk.
SD3_Driver 10-26-2008, 06:00 PM my avg. is between 160-180, but could go as high as 250....:)
ILAveo 10-26-2008, 06:14 PM Around 250 mi/wk in my own vehicles and 200-700 in company trucks depending on site locations.
Kacey Green 10-26-2008, 06:52 PM For commuting alone ~36 miles each way 6 days a week ~360 per week commuting alone. Leisure activities and visiting family (~40 miles to the Parents' house from mine)
Doofus McFancyPants 10-27-2008, 09:29 AM Personally - it is 24 miles to work 5 days a week ( although i am working from home at least once a week - but factoring in some weekend travel...
Call it between 100 - 150 miles...
would like to drive it LOWER if i could...
diamondlarry 10-27-2008, 05:02 PM My work commute is ~23 miles/day roundtrip 5 days/week. As some of the regular members know, I live 5-10 miles away from most things so I probably drive in the 150-200 miles/week category. Some weeks it goes higher. My wife drives ~12 miles/day for her commute.
