If you had to pick just ONE thing that would raise mpg, what would it be? Is there a consensus that doing X is the single most effective mileage improvement that can be applied across all vehicles?

Most would probably say limit your speed, but I wonder if avoiding a lot of speed fluctations is at least as important.
Two ways I can get 40mpg on my Insight:
Driving like a reckless Domino's boy in a residental neighboorhood doing about 40mph
Cruising at 85mphI had similar results with a car in college.

Reduce my vehicle's Area by ~60% and drag coefficient by 60%. That'd be a nice... ~120-140mpg w/o trying.

no really its harder than it sounds... if you can just drive without them you are a god!
