When considering what's been lost, maybe it's like a bull market with $5 gas. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27266921/)

Gut-wrenching declines in the stock market, a financial panic that some have compared to the Great Depression and the realization that the U.S. may be headed to its worst recession in over a generation have trumped what should otherwise be good news: The return of $3-a-gallon gas (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27266921/#).
Better yet, with 401(k) statements arriving in the mail and families worried about keeping their homes, has anyone even noticed?...http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27266921/

Call it resilience or apathy, our American society is NOT going to change overnight.

I have one daughter who works for Banana Republic (clothing store) and another daughter who works at a high dollar salon and day spa (home of the $100+ haircut). I ask them everytime they come home from work how BUSY their store was and if people are spending money.

They are MORE busy now than they have been ALL YEAR. My 16 year old said she attributes it to the decline in gasoline prices. As soon as it broke through $3 a gallon, her salon has gotten VERY busy.

Economic crisis? High gas prices? Ladies and Gentleman I am convinced it will take a SEVERE DEPRESSION that equals or exceeds the Great 'D' in order for this country to change it's ways.

Pain is a great learning tool and sometimes it's the only thing that works.

I don't think the economy is helping drivers slow down or anything. Ever since gas dropped below $3.50 repeatedly flashing the high beams (especially in Ohio) seems to be the standard way of saying "I'm in a hurry and I don't care if I break the law by speeding. Now speed, too, so I can make it to my next nail appointment on time." Either that or it's some road-raging air hauler who still can't afford to fill up his Rammer since it's still $80+ anyway and decides to take it out on small cars.

I wonder what happens next summer when gas prices go back up and people are broke?

With gas prices going down just a little around here, the highway is much more hostile than it was a couple weeks ago.

Even if gas was free I'd drive this way. It's still going to save you on maintenance costs on your car, save you from making as many trips to the gas station, lower your stress level and lower your chances of getting killed on the road.
