Honda might fall behind if they never make a plug in hybrid.

They're not doing it becuase of no good Li Ion batteries. But aren't they getting behind in some technologies? Like isn't VTEC just variable valve technology, something GM has? GM now has direct injection, and there's no mention of that in Honda or Toyota vehicles yet!

Direct injection had been on most imports now for many years! Even my old 1974 Volvo had direct injection! I do believe Honda and Toyota already uses direct fuel injection. No reason to crow over tech they have had in place for years. In fact, the only fuel injected cars I have owned w/o direct injection were all GM's. (and an 86 Nissan truck)

Are you kidding me? If Honda and Toyota have direct injection they should BRAG about it! I've never heard them mention it. Maybe I gotta ask a Honda Dealer.

To the best of my knowledge the venerable Volvo "red block" used from '75 (Volvo 240) through '94 (Volvo 940) did not use direct injection.
The four injectors spray into the intake manifold, with each injector located above an intake valve. However I'm told they all fire simultaneously, not in synch with the valve action. I guess you could call it "local fuel injection" but not "direct". I think direct injection would be injecting directly into the cylinder with the intake valve admitting only combustion air.

Correct. DI has been the standard for diesel practically forever, but is relatively new to the gasoline world. Only a couple manufacturers use it right now...Mazda off the top of my head...and only for the last couple of years in select high-end engines. There are big benefits to be had but it's expensive since you have to build obscenely high pressure at the injector to get it to work right. Nothing Honda and Toyota can't handle if they decide to put the effort into it, of course. GM has that 1.4L DI engine on the way for the Cruze, and on paper it should be a winner. Maybe that will stir the pot sufficiently.
Hi All:
___Audi/VW for a few years now.
___GM uses DI in some of their higher end 3.6L SI-ICE's. Ford will be using it in their ECOBoost ICE's and GM in the upcoming 1.4L as Tim mentioned.
___Good Luck
