View Full Version : Week of September 22nd- September 28th (Nat Avg: $3.74)
Right Lane Cruiser 09-22-2008, 06:20 AM Welcome to another fun Monday!! :D
I had another rocky start this morning but at least managed to pull up past 110mpg.
63F, 8mph headwind from the SE, overcast:
112.5mpg for 22.4mi (Home to work)
The tank is back down to 120.0mpg even over 1108.4mi with 11 of 20 bars left on the fuel gauge.
I'll need at least a 130mpg trip home to maintain the tank average at 120.3mpg.
Chuck 09-22-2008, 06:50 AM 96.3mpg that could have been better but I had cat problems....

in the alley when I was going to do my 0.4mile P&G...did not run off the alley but 100 yards down the alley.
PaleMelanesian 09-22-2008, 07:40 AM 73.3 this morning in 67 degrees and fog. Nice way to start the week.
My best run at this temperature by about 3 mpg. :D
laurieaw 09-22-2008, 08:05 AM i am wondering where the gas price averages are listed, since this morning on my way in i saw them at $3.49! it makes me a little nervous, because i am afraid the FSP drivers are going to get complacent and consider this acceptable. it's probably nasty to say, but i wish they would stay closer to $4.
62.4 into the lot
SlowHands 09-22-2008, 08:16 AM I paid $3.739 last night in Decatur, near hear I saw $4.059.
Trip to Decatur last night, 36.1 for 186 miles, entirely 'hang time' and DWL. Wind picked up halfway through the trip, was up almost to 38. On the way back, was not doing as well as I expected, at the town after Bloomington (Towanda?) I jumped over to the frontage road / old Route 66. P&G'd my brains to mush... goes right past the main entrance to the nuke plant.. continued onto 53N / Route 66 through Joliet, and finally joined up with I-55 and I-355. It was a ton of work, but I managed to squeek out a 40.1 for 182 miles...
This morning traffic was stupid... only pulled a 33.1 into the lot. Tank is at 39.9 for 187 miles.
Chuck 09-22-2008, 08:40 AM i am wondering where the gas price averages are listed, since this morning on my way in i saw them at $3.49! it makes me a little nervous, because i am afraid the FSP drivers are going to get complacent and consider this acceptable. it's probably nasty to say, but i wish they would stay closer to $4.
62.4 into the lotDifferent take: the beating Wall Street took is going to hit Main Street...gas prices don't necessarily have to return to $4.00 to get attention as our economy takes more of a beating. :(
Ophbalance 09-22-2008, 09:35 AM 41.5 on the way in. Darn head winds anyway.
diamondlarry 09-22-2008, 04:27 PM A fairly good day today. I started with 58F and winds from the E@ ~5 mph. This afternoon I saw 81F and winds were still from the E@ ~5mph.
1. 97.8-11.0(home to work)
2. 100-11.0(work to home)
Average for today was 98.9 and the tank is at 95.9 after 330.2 miles.
Right Lane Cruiser 09-22-2008, 04:28 PM Durn traffic! :p
Good thing I had a tailwind... that's all I have to say about it. ;)
78F, 22mph tailwind from the SSE with gusts up to 29mph, partly cloudy:
132.3mpg for 21.8mi (Work to home)
The tank remains at 120.3mpg over 1030.2mi with 11 bars left on the fuel gauge.
Day Total: 121.4mpg over 44.2mi
570mi to go... :p
lamebums 09-22-2008, 05:11 PM Stupid roundabout caused me to piss away at least two MPG and still nearly get hit by a car...
64.9 getting home.
fixedintime 09-22-2008, 05:56 PM Not a bad day. 36.6 on the way to work (16.5 miles). A little below average - the lights were not in my favor. Only had one guy who just had to gun his engine and run around me to so he could stop at the light 25 yards ahead.
The way home is always better. It came in at a very satisfying 46.2. The lights are much more favorable on the way home.
The day came in at 40.9.
robmtdew 09-22-2008, 06:48 PM 31.7 home to work
37.1 work to daycare
29.9 daycare to home
33.8 for the day and the tank stands at 33.8. Hopefully the milder weather holds for the rest of the tank.
moneysaver 09-22-2008, 07:43 PM Mom took the Red Bull to work. Coming home she managed 30.8 MPG over 16.8 miles. :(The tank sits at 31.7 MPG for 236 miles at about halfway point.:o Dad also took the car this evening and I will find out what he can muster. I really don't think that the tank is gonna break 32 this time around unless something good occurs before Friday.
Rob, I am also hoping for mild weather to stay. from the forecast, it look like it will stay warm and would be in my favor.
Filled up Dad's accord today at $3.94/gallon and did 30.72 MPG. I bet if I drive that car for the entire tank, I can pull 35+ withour breaking sweat.
Chuck 09-22-2008, 10:18 PM 100.5mpg tonight
Ophbalance 09-22-2008, 10:26 PM 38.9 to the FoodLion over 6.1 miles, then 44.8 on the way back. I got to test out my new headlamp bulbs. I just replaced the original bulbs this week. I've never, ever had a headlamp bulb last this long (9 years).
Right Lane Cruiser 09-23-2008, 06:38 AM Too bad I only drive 'Lantrific when there are poor weather conditions. ;)
68F, 14mph headwind from the SSE with gusts up to 21mph, driving rain:
62.0mpg for 22.2mi (Home to work)
This lowers the tank to 66.2mpg over 740.0mi with 4.8g left and the guess gauge indicates 2 needle widths over 1/4.
Chuck 09-23-2008, 07:33 AM 93.5mpg at 70F this morning.
PaleMelanesian 09-23-2008, 07:54 AM 63 home last night.
74 this morning.
Tank's up to 62.7 / 470 miles and about 1/4 on the gauge.
SlowHands 09-23-2008, 08:06 AM A decent drive to the school last night, 36.1, from school to work, a very nice 41.3, and to home a nice 43.1. This morning, what is looking to be a norm if I catch traffic, 36.1. Tanks is up/down, sitting at 39.2 for 288 miles. This short commute gives no opportunity to make up for any goofs on my part, or a missed signal light, or any other traffic glitch.
I did figure out that the route I took last night from school back to work was better FE, and even though a little bit longer distance, still less gas than straight up 83. Going to try the same thing to get to the school.
chilimac02 09-23-2008, 09:17 AM I had a guy in a red 89 civic start doing the racing swerving thing behind me on my commute in today. I gave him some hang time. He stayed back there for a mile even though the other lanes were open. Then he exited. Odd....
still, 44.5mpg this morning.
AlphabetBackward 09-23-2008, 10:23 AM chilimac02, you are pulling some very impressive numbers; especially for a morning commute. The best I've ever gotten was 44 in the morning and I've yet to replicate it. What's more impressive is your car is rated for less than mine.
I'm jealous.
Right Lane Cruiser 09-23-2008, 03:51 PM I JUST beat the rain home!
75F, 10mph tail/crosswind from the S, cloudy and wet roads:
72.8mpg for 22.0mi (Work to home)
The tank is back to 66.4mpg over 762.1mi with 4.5g left and the guess gauge indicates 1 needle width over 1/4.
Day Total: 66.9mpg over 44.2mi
lamebums 09-23-2008, 04:17 PM Something must be in the air today.
85 degrees, with a slight wind, couldn't tell what direction:
71.2 MPG over 13.1 miles! That is a PR by at least 3 MPG for any returning trip home and the highest ever seen for any highway run, warm or cold.
:woot::flag::woot::flag:
http://www.cleanmpg.com/photos/data/500/medium/092308_16392.jpg
fixedintime 09-23-2008, 04:31 PM A good day for me.
16.5 miles to work - 37.9 - that is a bit above average. The lights were more cooperative today
10.5 miles work to grocery store - 43.8 - this one came in above average as well
4.0 miles - grocery store to the local country store - 37.8 - I've never measured this one. I usually combine it with the next leg as the scangauge usually does not reset while I'm in the store. This does not seem bad as there are no downhills along this stretch.
1.9 miles local county store to home - 69.9 - Bascially all down hill. Gas to get out the the parking lot, gas to crest on hill and gain some momentum down the main hill, and 0.2 miles on the final approach to home that is basically flat but take a bit of gas to be able to coast to the driveway after the final turn.
So the day came in at 40.7 mpg
robmtdew 09-23-2008, 05:21 PM 31.1 home to work
36.4 work to daycare
30.7 daycare to home
33.4 for the day and 33.6 for the tank.
F350 blasted the horn at me for going 55 in a 55 zone on a four-lane highway. First time this has happened since I started at the end of June. Tonight I was tailgated by a motor home that kept flashing the high beams. Must have been too much for him to move into the open left lane. He continued to follow me with occasional flashes of the high beams for over 4 miles until I got off at my exit.http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif
Ophbalance 09-23-2008, 05:36 PM Oy... the missus took the car out today. She left to take Williams the eldest to soccer. She's going to have it up to 100 miles for the day, and about 33.5 MPG overall :(. She managed to hit 77 MPH as her high too.
diamondlarry 09-23-2008, 05:50 PM A good day for me.:) 54F this morning with winds from the E@ ~5mph. This afternoon I had 82F and the winds were from the E@ 5-10mph.
1. 103-11.0(Home to work)
2. 62.1-.6(work to BMV to get plates for wife's car)
3. 108-10.4(BMV to home)
Average for today was 103.4 and the tank is at 95.6 after 352.6 miles and I lost a pip this morning at ~332 miles.
moneysaver 09-23-2008, 11:26 PM I did some driving but no numbers to report because of dad's poor attempt to set SG 2 for the fill up. He filled up the car this morning before coming to work. He said that the sg2 showed 8.7 gallons used but he only used about 7.8 gallons.
He decided that he would try to set it up. He did more----->fill up-----> and then added up 8.7 gallons + 7.8 gallons = 16.5 gallons and then hit done. BUT the tank is only 14 gallons. So now when I drive the car every reading is incorrect. Before today, the idle rate was about .37-.4 GPH but now it shows .7-.8 GPH. So I am thinking that all the numbers that are showing on the sg, are half of what they really are.
I think i am just going to drive the car the way I have driven so far and then correct the mistake when I fill up the next time.:( The suckey part is that I am in the 3 month challange, so this is gonna hurt my numbers by not having accurate info :(
moneysaver 09-23-2008, 11:27 PM Rob and Auston, those are nice numbers for both of you guys. Nice work guys. :flag:
Right Lane Cruiser 09-24-2008, 06:36 AM MoneySaver, just keep the average moving higher and you'll do just fine -- the relative feedback is more important than the actual numbers.
51F, 3mph cross/headwind from the SW, damp:
111.8mpg for 22.5mi (Home to work)
The tank remains at 120.3mpg over 1052.8mi with 10 of 20 bars showing on the fuel gauge.
I'll need a 131mpg trip home to maintain the average.
Chuck 09-24-2008, 06:38 AM 97.2mpg this morning at 70F
SlowHands 09-24-2008, 07:30 AM Decent trip yesterday to group meeting, 36.2 for 21.4 miles, from group to home 40.1 for 23.4 miles. This morning a pleasant 43.1 for 5.0 miles. Tank is at 39.0 at 299 miles.
PaleMelanesian 09-24-2008, 07:55 AM Finally some good stuff from my new commute!
67.2 mpg / 8.1 miles home.
65.1 / 8.1 to work this morning.
Tank ticks up a notch, to 62.8 mpg / 486 miles.
---------------------
Update:
My new commute is short enough to go home for lunch! :woot:
71.3 mpg home
75.3 back to work (PR, but with a warm start, so I'm not recording it)
Tank up to 63.1 now!
fixedintime 09-24-2008, 04:02 PM Not so great today.
AM commute was 37.2 which is just barely below my average. I felt I really lost it on the first six miles - don't know why, perhaps because it was 46 degrees and the engine had to warm up.
On the way home it was into a stiff head wind. I knew something was up when my first coast only went about half the normal distance. Still I came in at 43.3.
For the round trip it came in at exactly 40.0 mph - that is my lowest number in over a month. It looks like I am going to have to deal with rain Thursday and Friday.
diamondlarry 09-24-2008, 04:56 PM A decent day, not in the 100's but I'll take it.:p I started out with 56F and winds were from the SE@ ~5mph. This afternoon I had 83F with winds from the SW@ ~5mph; headwind both directions.
1. 96.8-11.0(home to work)
2. 99.6-11.0(work to home)
Average for today was 98.2 and the tank is at 95.5 after 374.7 miles.
Right Lane Cruiser 09-24-2008, 05:33 PM Hey, Larry -- same deal here. :(
Throw in some nasty traffic and you've got a bad day. I even took a loop around the neighborhood but when I got back someone was blocking most of my driveway. :(
67F, 10mph headwind from the WNW, partly cloudy:
126.9mpg for 22.6mi (Work to home)
The tank is still at 120.3mpg over 1075.4mi with 10 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.
Day Total: 118.9mpg over 45.2mi
Blech. Looks like rain for the rest of the week and next Monday as well.
basjoos 09-24-2008, 06:31 PM It amazing what a little incentive (like lots of gas stations out of gas in western NC) can do to your hypermiling. I worked a little harder on my hypermiling than usual, allowing a greater speed variation in my DWL and when ICE-off coasting to stops, and got 99mpg when I gassed up today.
Right Lane Cruiser 09-24-2008, 06:56 PM Whoah!! You know what this means, right?? You just have to try for that magical 100mpg tank!!! :woot:
Ophbalance 09-24-2008, 08:32 PM That is entirely insane... yeesh. I'm going to start slapping coroplast on any exposed space on my car ;). We averaged about 40 MPG for the day. The tank sits at 37.7 MPG :(. I don't think there's any coming back into the 40s for this tank. I'm going to attempt doing 50 in the 65 zones tomorrow... I hope to not get hit!
Chuck 09-24-2008, 10:34 PM Had problems with a bad MIMA setting that kept the FAS switch from working, but for the final 18 miles home - 112mpg. :)
Right Lane Cruiser 09-25-2008, 06:26 AM Nice work, Chuck! Guess what I got on the way in? :o
54F, 7mph headwind from the SE, overcast:
112.0mpg for 22.4mi (Home to work)
The tank is down to 120.0mpg over 1097.8mi with 9 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.
I'll need a 131.0mpg trip home to get the average back up to 120.3mpg for the day.
I really hope I didn't make a mistake driving Blue Swayed today... it is supposed to rain during the time I'm at work but be done by the time I head out of here.
Chuck 09-25-2008, 06:35 AM 100.1mpg this morning at 70F
SlowHands 09-25-2008, 06:42 AM rough trips yesterday afternoon, 34.1 and 35.6 for 22 miles each. 38.1 home, 43.6 this morning into work. Tank is down to 38.1 :(
PaleMelanesian 09-25-2008, 08:05 AM Good trips for me!
71.3 mpg home
72.6 to work this morning
The tank is up to 63.5 mpg, with the needle near 1/4. (The only marks are F, 1/2 and E, so I'm guessing the whole time)
Right Lane Cruiser 09-25-2008, 08:20 AM Chin up, Ken -- you are still kicking the stuffing out of the EPA. :D
Looks like you may actually catch my tank in the Elantra, Andrew!
lamebums 09-25-2008, 11:54 AM 61.5 over 9.7 miles this morning. Hit 5 out of 8 lights this morning and threw away what I'd gained from a good Fas starting at the top of the entrance ramp.
Yes, I merge onto the freeway in a Fas. I hit the top of the turn at 20 (if I ever make the light), and then doing 45-50 when it's time to merge and can just slide right over. :)
PaleMelanesian 09-25-2008, 01:01 PM Sean - it'll be tough, but I'm trying! I'll have to average 77+ for the rest of the tank, and hope the readings are in fact accurate. My new shorter commute is kicking me down a bunch, too.
Out for lunch. 56.3 mpg / 4.2 mi there, 71.3 mpg back.
laurieaw 09-25-2008, 02:11 PM i haven't really done anything lately. i am carpooling pretty regularly with a guy from work, who drives a 94 escort. we may trade off driving, though i warned him i have pretty bizarre driving habits, compared to him. but, even with them, he still pushes the thing over 35MPG.
plus, we have a ride share program at work that pays the rider $3/day for every day we don't drive alone........share, walk, bus, bike.....at the end of the month we are going to split the cash.
fixedintime 09-25-2008, 03:50 PM A good day for me even with the rain.
The AM commute was rain free and I managed to hit the lights better today. The first light six miles down the road gives me about five seconds out of a two minute cycle and I have to make a left turn there. I also had a decent tail wind. Today I manage to make the green without slowing too much. The 16.5 mile trip came in at 39.5 mpg - not a record by getting close. My goal is to make this leg at 40 mpg one day.
The rain moved in for the afternoon commute plus I had the same headwind I had yesterday. Then I timed leaving work badly and got caught in the backup getting out of the garage. On the plus side the rain slowed traffic down so on a couple mile stretch where I usually end up at 50-55 mph I could do 40-45 and not be holding anyone up. So this leg came in at 16.5 miles and 43.6 mpg.
The day came in at 41.5 mpg.
Right Lane Cruiser 09-25-2008, 04:12 PM More bad traffic today. :p
72F, 13mph tailwind from the SSE, overcast with wet roads:
128.0mpg for 21.9mi (Work to home)
The tank is back up to 120.3mpg over 1119.8mi with 9 of 20 bars left on the fuel gauge.
Day Total: 119.3mpg over 44.3mi
Something has to change. I've got to get that number moving up again. :(
SlowHands 09-25-2008, 05:16 PM an ok drive to the school considering traffic, 34.4 mpg. Tonight I'm dropping TorqueNada off for some overdue work: block heater bracket broke about 3-4 weeks ago, the tywraps just don't hold well enough, plus the hoses are getting worn through near to the bursting point... duct tape over the rubbed spots is only going to hold for so long... also, there seems to be something odd going on with the new starter motor, seeming like the solenoid is sticking, either engaging only partway sometimes, or maybe not being held in: I get some grinding that is quite unnerving every now and then.
Wife is going to pick me up there with the red '98 Ranger, and I'm going to 'let' her drive home, and GENTLY give her a few pointers just to prove to herself that she can get over 20 mpg in that thing. SonOfaSlowHands got 24.9 mpg on Sunday for a 44 mile drive, he can do it, but he needs a bit of reminding.
diamondlarry 09-25-2008, 05:16 PM Another great day here. I had 57F this morning with winds from the SE@ ~5mph. This afternoon I had 82F and winds were still from the E@ 5-10mph.
1. 102-11.0(home to work)
2. 98.6-11.0(work to home)
Average for today was 100.3 and the tank is at 95.6 after 396.9.
I tried an experiment to see what the difference in mpg would be if I force-charged to 70%SOC before leaving work. I reset one SG2 before I pulled out but left the other one go. I had 127 when I got home on the one I reset and 98.6 on the one that registered all of the fuel usage. It looks like it's basically a wash as far as overall fuel usage as 98.6 is right up there with what I usually get for a trip home. The numbers look cooler the other way though.:p:D
robmtdew 09-25-2008, 06:34 PM 33.4 home to daycare
31.9 daycare to work
35.1 work to daycare
31.7 daycare to home
10 mph headwind from the ENE really hurt the work to daycare segment today. Traffic lights have been horrible the past 2 days on the evening commute due to abnormally heavy traffic. I've only made 5 out of 20 the last two days. 33.1 for the day and tank is still holding at 33.4 over 310.6 miles.
SlowHands 09-26-2008, 12:21 AM Well I sure had a surprise... wife pulled into mechanic's parking lot about 5 minutes after I did, and I fully expected to see about 16 mpg for the about 12-13 mile trip. Sneaky shifty eyed wonderful woman came in there with a 19.2 mpg!! :D
I didn't say anything then other than that I wanted to reset the SG for the trip home. I got in the passenger seat, and mostly kept my mouth shut... she must have been asking SonOfaSlowHands for some tips, or maybe she WAS listening when I was talking to younger daughter one evening about what GPH to stay between for accelerating up to speed. She was sticking right between 2.1 and 2.3 mostly, sometimes up to 2.5. I did have to comment on needing to start coasting sooner when coming up to a stop sign or red signal light. Once on the route 53 expressway she pretty much stayed in the 55-60 range. I got her to try a little bit of DWL without calling it that, pointing out the IMPG, GPH, and TPS numbers.
There were a couple of really long signal lights that hurt the average a bit... I didn't want to push it about shutting off at long lights at this point, and the battery is weak anyway. Well when we pulled up in the driveway... 21.3 mpg!!:woot:
I helped move some stuff for my son and then went and got gas... and received another big surprise... the last tank was better than normal at 18.2 mpg... but now the SG was showing 20.0 mpg for 386 miles!!
Actual fill ended up at 21.37 MPG!! :Banane44: Great job she did, slipped it right past me!:D
Chuck 09-26-2008, 06:34 AM 108.8 mpg last night - 102.9 this morning.
Right Lane Cruiser 09-26-2008, 07:13 AM Wonderful story, Ken! Now if only my wife would get a bit more into it... :p
Chuck, you're inching up there! Did you change anything?
No driving for me today. I'm working from home and we have another baby appointment. Mama to be does all the driving for that.
laurieaw 09-26-2008, 08:10 AM good, job, all. i am still car pooling.
i just wanted to tell you what gas was this morning......3.39! what the heck?
Chuck 09-26-2008, 08:14 AM Wonderful story, Ken! Now if only my wife would get a bit more into it... :p
Chuck, you're inching up there! Did you change anything?
No driving for me today. I'm working from home and we have another baby appointment. Mama to be does all the driving for that.Sean, I think weather and good fortune factored into this...even factoring the cooler weather at hand, I think is was just a good day.
Thinking about it, I did FAS more because evening traffic allowed it.
PaleMelanesian 09-26-2008, 08:40 AM 65.8 / 9.8 miles home last night
69.0 this morning, then...
64.9 back home, smack in the middle of rush hour. I forgot something :o
76.2 back to work, after traffic had cleared. I was a little late... ;)
Tank is up to 63.8 / 572 miles and well below 1/4.
My wife drove us out to a group meeting last night in the Ody. She started out with windows down and AC off, then turned it on after about a mile. Several times she shifted to N and coasted, too.
With no prompting from me. :)
Ophbalance 09-26-2008, 09:56 AM I managed to bring the averaged back up a few tenths to 38.0. The trip in today yielded 41.5. That's really good considering the winds and the rains lashing the state right now.
lamebums 09-26-2008, 12:06 PM Gas is still in the $3.95 range here for corn meth RFG, ~$3.73 for real gasoline. Some stations are now serving real gasoline in Northern Kentucky, about time.
63.1 - 9.7 this morning. I made every light for once but a 20mph headwind killed any advantages.
Got a tailgater on I-275 today as I DWL'd up toward Taylor Mill... 40-something woman in a Chevy sedan (Lumina?) glued herself to my butt and was visibly agitated as she laid into the horn with a clear "Get the hell out of my way!" intent. So I firmly stick me left thumb out the window signalling her to go around. Ignores it... five seconds later her exit ramp comes up and she goes WOT, screaming bonkers out of her window at me as she passes by on the ramp only to get on the brakes at the top of the ramp.
fixedintime 09-26-2008, 03:11 PM Worst day this week at 39.8 mpg
AM commute was 36.9, Wet roads then I just missed my 5 second green light and had to wait over 90 seconds. Then got caught at another light for two cycles. I'm surprised that I did as well as I did.
PM commute at 43.3 was ok but did not make up for the morning trip.
diamondlarry 09-26-2008, 05:49 PM I'm at 102.1 for the day and I expect to do a bit more driving. My son is supposed to go pick up his motorcycle and needs a ride. The bad news is that it's ~20 or more miles but the good news is, the roads are even more rural than they are here in my general vicinity.:D
psyshack 09-26-2008, 09:18 PM Hello all
Just wanted to chime in. I've got the Mazda up to a solid 42 lmpg @ 27,772 miles.
Traffic here is getting worse by the day. No bad economy here. Folks are busy as can be. Thus the daily grind has got darn near big city metro stupid. Also tags are showing up from all over the country and Mexico.
The wife and I have maintained our car pooling mantra. We ride in together on average 3 days a week over the last year.
The Accord is maintaining its lmpg of 35 mpg. I can get it close to xcel levels. But all is lost when the wife takes over. With most of her driving being city and a lot of A/C this summer I thought it worked out well. She is on some meds that raise her core body temp a bit. So A/C has been ran quiet a bit. Tis ok with me!
My PROBLEM is me as always. While I can stick record tanks. I also enjoy other attributes the Mazda has. At half tank by gauge setting at 44 mpg this tank. I tanked it on the drive home. With the idiot humans going out of there way to play bumper cars. I went into road warrior mode to get out of Tulsa. And then once out of the mess I took the long way home if you know what I mean. The brakes work well,, the goodyears stick, sway bars work, shifts like a dream. And the throttle thingy reacts well to inputs registered from the floor up. So its now at 37 mpg,,,, whoops.
But with a half tank left and trip to Norman to watch the Sooners dismantlement TCU. Im sure I can get back up to my lmpg. :)
Have Fun.
Chuck 09-27-2008, 06:46 AM 90mpg this morning...worked into the night.
TracyJean 09-27-2008, 12:48 PM Despite waking up sick this morning, I managed to make my planned trip to Rockwall this morning. 45MPG on the way there (34.8 miles), 44MPG on the way back (35.8 miles - had to divert a bit to get back on the highway because of construction).
SlowHands 09-27-2008, 01:24 PM nice quiet Saturday drive to and from office... 52.1 there, 43.6 back. Ah I love it when the roads are devoid of other cars, trucks, fauna, flaura, idjits...
Ophbalance 09-27-2008, 03:51 PM I managed to pull the tank up! It's at 39.2 right now, over about 429 miles. 40.8 MPG over 39.9 miles there, and 43.4 MPG on the way back. Yay. I won't be able to pull this up over 40 MPG though... I just can't seem to do better than a 43 MPG average on the way into work (it's mostly uphill).
diamondlarry 09-27-2008, 07:12 PM WOW! What a day for FE. I let my son(CobraPond) drive my car today to see if I could learn anything and boy did I! He drove for segments 4 & 5. Everything after that was a PR except for segment 10 which tied my PR. I'll have to do some digging but, I think today's average may have edged out my PR as well. Temps today were mostly in the mid to upper 70'sF with segments 10 & 11 were 65F. Winds were from a northerly direction at 5-10 mph. Traffic was virtually non-existent and what traffic I did encounter was generally polite except for the numb-nuts who honked at me with no oncoming traffic and a dotted yellow line. I rolled down the window and gave him directions on how to get around me; I even used my whole hand.:D
1. 85.3-5.2(home to insurance office)
2. 107-8.6(insurance office to gas station)
3. 100-6.1(station to the point where I traded seats with CobraPond)
4. 129-7.7(the rest of the trip home from the station-I think he did quite qell for only driving my car only a half dozen times or less)
5. 112-17.6(home to pick up my son's motorcycle-again piloted by him)
6. 106-8.6(from mechanic's house to a few miles out when I had to go back and get him some gas and take it back to him)
7. 130-16.1(the rest of the trip home from the mechanic)
8. 102-4.9(home to pick up daughter at her friend's birthday party)
9. 118-12.4(party to Meijer)
10. 101-12.2(Meijer to my mom's)
11. 149-4.6(mom's to home)
Average for today was 112.0 and the tank is at 109 after 90.9 miles.
I filled up the car today and got another near-record tank; 446.2 miles and 4.48 gallons for 99.6 mpg.
Right Lane Cruiser 09-27-2008, 09:25 PM Geez, Larry -- it's a Prius... not an Insight!
diamondlarry 09-27-2008, 09:41 PM Geez, Larry -- it's a Prius... not an Insight!
Hmm, I guess I entered the wrong info in my fuel log?:p I did have help from CobraPond too. I also learned a few techniques from him as segments 8-11 show pretty vividly. Segment 8 is especially significant as I've never gotten more than low 90's. I have a feeling that he would be causing you to sweat a few bullets if he were to obtain an Insight and go for a tank record.;) He has talked about looking for a Prius or Insight. For my record's sake I hope he doesn't choose the Prius!:D
Right Lane Cruiser 09-27-2008, 09:57 PM Larry, I know he could lay waste to my tank numbers with his routes if he acquired an Insight. Frankly, I'd love to see the results! :D
diamondlarry 09-27-2008, 10:06 PM Larry, I know he could lay waste to my tank numbers with his routes if he acquired an Insight. Frankly, I'd love to see the results! :D
After seeing him in action from the passenger seat today, I think even Wayne or Billy would be in his striking distance in a head-to-head competition. I think I've created an FE moster and I too would like to see those results.:driveby1::smile:
moneysaver 09-27-2008, 10:52 PM Mom kept the key on the ON position for about 10 mins. The battery died so I had to have a friend help me jump the car. :o No numbers to report as Dad had messed up the fill up a few days ago. :(
diamondlarry 09-28-2008, 10:18 AM Another good day for FE. Or, to paraphrase a popular movie line, "I love the smell of clean air in the morning.":D Temps in the mid 50'sF on the way to church and mid 60'sF coming home. Winds were from the NW@ <5mph.
1. 95.5-5.2(home to Church)
2. 116-5.1(Church to home)
Average for today was 104.7mpg and the tank is at 108 after 101.3 miles. Hmm, all that distance and I still haven't used a gallon.:D
SlowHands 09-28-2008, 03:10 PM Larry, your son is quite a chip off the old block, a big chip :D I KNEW I should have taken a drive with him when I had the chance! I too would love to see what he could do in an Insight...
A couple of other errands yesterday went well, 38.2 for the day. Today a nice 52.2 to work and a 43.3 on the way home.
fixedintime 09-28-2008, 06:40 PM To finish the week I was out twice for 79.5 miles and come in with 42.1 mpg for the day
Home to Church - 21.1 miles at 37.9 in the rain
Church to Gas Station - 5.8 mile at 35.8 mpg
Gas Station Home - 17.7 miles at 50.4 mpg
Home to Local Mall - 17.1 miles at 41.0 mpg - some rain
Mall to Borders - 0.9 at 24.0 mpg
Borders to Home - 16.4 at 47.0 mpg - wet road
The tank of gas came in at 41.8 mpg after 543 miles
