I just saw an ad for the new 2009 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid. In the small print at the bottom they show the city and highway mileage.
Guys I almost fell off the couch laughing.

CITY MILEAGE 12 MPG.
They had to be joking when they put that in the ad right ?

Highway wasn't that bad at 19 mpg for a vehicle that big.

That HAS to be a mistake. Even the 4WD Tahoe hybrid gets EPA 20 city/ 20 highway:

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/2008seleeng1f.jsp?year=2009&make=Chevrolet&model=Tahoe%20Hybrid%204WD

That has to be the non-hybrid MPG specs.

Yeah, just what I thought...The Escalade hybrid (RWD) gets 20 city/21 hwy:

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/2008seleeng1f.jsp?year=2009&make=Cadillac&model=Escalade%20Hybrid%202WD

Which for a pig like that isn't bad, I suppose -- especially in the city.

Glad you mentioned this. This is what I saw 24 hours ago. Note the new temp licence plate.

If we saw the same commercial, the guy goes on and on about how all hybrids are tiny and don't satisfy his need for 8", then he says "they should hybrid this." I took that to mean that it had yet to be done, so it would make sense if he were sitting in the non-hybrid version.

(I also just about fell off my couch laughing, but for different reasons.)

I have seen several new Ram Quad cab 4x4 last week with temp tags. I have seen ads in the papers for a $40,000+ truck for $22,000 to as low as $18,000. A friend was pricing a new truck last week and found a new 2008 full size Chevy Silverado 6 cyl., AT, AC for $10,600. Dodge is also advertising 0% APR for at least 72 months. Large percentage of consumers shop the payment instead of the price.

BTW, the new 2009 Dodge Ram makes it's official debut this Friday at the Texas State Fair Auto Show - known to some here as TruckFest.

It's sad, but many that only shop payment don't consider other expenses.

My City EPA for my Isuzu Rodeo 6cyl is 15 old/ 16 new. It's way smaller than an Escalade! So I can believe that.

i really wish that there was a law that on the car stickers they had to put (in big numbers) the 5-year total cost and cost to travel 100 miles. And while i'm wishing for stuff that will never happen, a law requiring the moment-by-moment mileage display on the dash would be nice. Umm... and world peace too.

The commercial is a guy driving a Escalade at night going on and on how they should make a Hybrid version. As the commercial ends the small print pops up at the bottom of the screen.
Saying that the vehicle shown is a pre-production version.
So the numbers shown must have been for a non hybrid version.

___There is already on every new car in small print. The Prius-II’s Monroney sticker states the following:

Estimated
Fuel Cost

$911

based on 15,000 miles at $2.80 per gallon.

___$2.80 per gallon

Does the sticker indicate where to get or use a time machine to go back for that $2.80/gal gas?

Unfortunately the DeLorean needed too many repairs and I had to trade it in earlier this year for a newer car. No flux capacitor in the Vibe. :(
