DALLAS - A motorist was killed after his SUV ran under the trailer of an 18-wheeler early Thursday near Love Field in Dallas.

The crash happened at about 12:30 a.m. on eastbound Storey Lane at Justice Way.

Firefighters tried for more than 40 minutes to free Justin Stout, 26, of Bedford.

Stout was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 18-wheeler was stopped at a red light when the crash happened. The driver of the semi was not injured.

I was going to say that if they determine that he was drunk they should send the article to the local chapter of the AAA. Drunk or otherwise impaired drivers are more dangerous than hypermilers. But then again his family could be members of the AAA and it would not be appropriate.

Given the hour and the nature of the accident it sounds like he was asleep at the wheel. Maybe drunk too, but maybe not-- the wrong night of the week and too early for bar closing.

That American-style Mansfield bar was useless.

Don't some European trucks have better (i.e. lower and stronger) bars?

Man, you can't even tell what kind of SUV it was! He must have been going very fast!

New Generation RAV4. Taillight told me. That is all that is recognizable.

My gut feeling is some of these types are still on the roads at 6am on the way to work

Story now says they found the man with a label still stuck to his hand...apparently he didn't even make an attempt to stop.

:rolleyes:It must be another hypermiling accident. None of the other drivers ever follow close enough to run into the back of a semi. When are we going to learn that drafting semis is dangerous.

(http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15975) , that article cites timing traffic lights as dangerous. While this traffic fatality was not the result of timing traffic lights, I suspect the reporter assumed hypermilers are timing traffic lights at speed - no!
