PaleMelanesian 09-16-2008, 01:38 PM Wow. I expected something more like a middle finger. This is actually classy. Cool.
Skwyre7 09-16-2008, 01:58 PM What you can't see is that Ford is mooning GM in every room with the light off.

Tochatihu 09-17-2008, 09:09 PM Lobby-buddies got to stick together. But perhaps not in the manner that the moon-roof post suggests.

moneysaver 09-18-2008, 12:56 PM Such a class act by Ford. I am not aware of any other manufacture who wished GM Happy 100 B-Day. :flag: I read somewhere that Toyota tried to lobby against the special tax credit for Volt. :eyebrow:

I don't feel like I should have to pay 7k for someone elses volt.
gershon 09-18-2008, 01:07 PM Look again. It's happy 10.0, the price of their stock.

I don't feel like I should have to pay 7k for someone elses volt.
BUT did we all not pay for all those individuals who bought Prius, FEH, Camry Hybrid, Altima hybrid, MMH, Highlander hybrid, HCH 1, accord hybrid and HCH 2? So why not Volt? Not all the owners qualified but those who did, got a check from the government. If Volt delivers on its promises of fuel consumption and EV range, I don't mind. :) This is a new technology and should get better with time. :)
Hi Moneysaver:
___We are still paying for the Vue, Malibu and Aura Hybrid, Tahoe and Yukon Hybrid as well. When they hit 60K units, the Tax Credit goes into the sunset clause. With the Volt PHEV, I am sure its tax credit would be outrageous but it should be part of the same AFV tax credit as the rest. Hit 60K in sales and your done.
___One thing that everybody has to consider is most that can afford a $25,000 automobile is already within AMT space so a $2K TC is worth all of $500 or less in many cases. A $7,500 TC may be worth even less given we are considering people that make even more $’s and are further inside AMT space. Tax Credits are a come-on. Great intention but our government has made it so the TC’s savings disappear for the middle class due to the lack of indexing for those that can afford such a vehicle. Thus it will have to stand on its own or it won’t stand at all over the longer term.
___I am all for the Volt for so many reasons but not if GM is going to pile on which is what it appears they are headed for. It is one thing to purchase a vehicle that removes our link to Crude. It is another to pay GM a cool $10K in profit on top of a reasonable MSRP to do so. Think of new Prius' with a $5K markups (above MSRP) from the dealerships? Total Rip off? You bet! Now think of the Volt with a $10K markup from the manufacturer. Rip off? You bet.
___GM will find where supply and demand meet at a given price no matter what they price it at in the beginning but $35 + K is not going to make it a hit as everybody else brings their own best into the marketplace as well.
___Good Luck

I don't really view this as new technology. They had EV, they had to plug those in somewhere, they have hybrids, so they changed the power paths a little. Its not revolutionary thing. It might be a big deal for GM, because they're hyping it 3 years before the model year it will be released for, but it is not that special.
I don't see the point of my tax dollars going to the BIG 3 to help them design stuff that they have already built, so then people buying those cars can come and get more of my tax money back as credits, to help boost GMs sales.
Taxes are meant to provide government services for the people, not to bail out lutz and crew because they did a piss poor job planning. All those execs need to turn in all their saleries for the past 10+ years I'm sure it would be close to the 50 Billion they need. It they want to make money, they need to risk their money, quit risking my money and giving me nothing to show for it but debt to the Chinese.
Let the market be free.
One of the most touching gestures of rivalries set aside was that of the Longhorn Band (UT). At the A&M -vs- UT game following the death of 12 A&M students and alumni, the UT marching band choose not to march. They stood silent and played Amazing Grace.

I second that wholeheartedly. In addition, I think it's wonderful that Ford did that for GM. Shame on Toyota for lobbying against the Volt tax credit. I'm terribly suprised they haven't seen the greater picture cars like the Volt are all about.
-It's really painful to see that the recently supurb Oldsmobile brand didn't live long enough see this. :(
moneysaver 09-18-2008, 06:42 PM @ Koreberg,
I understand your view and others who might have same opinions that government should not be bailing out those corporations who lack foresight and did not plan for future. The government did not help GM with the develpoment cost of Volt.If I am not mistaken, the Federal Reserve just loaned/ bought AIG for $ 85,000,000,000.:eek: That is really just insane. I don't really understand where that kind of money is coming from but I am preety sure that its going to be for future generations to carry that burden. :( Those tax credits for Volt would go toward individuals who have the same goals as all of us here: lower the fuel consumption and emmisions. :)
I was really pointing toward Toyota, as Pierce mentioned, that they want to get it blocked because they feel threathned by the Volt. If anything I would expect them to provide competition to GM which would be a healthy thing for consumers as more choices will lower the prices and improve quality.:)
Wayne, I suppose that its up to GM to enforce the prices for Volt and PUNISH the dealers who try to mark up the Volt.
