Fifth Gear, the UK car TV show that underdogs Top Gear, recently did a little section on "nempimaniacs" and hypermiling. It's very one-sided and takes the AAA's description and embellishes on it, but it's definitely nice to know that even these "petrol-heads" from across the pond have gotten the word.
It's on a YouTube video, starts at around 3:35. The sound is way off, but it's still an amusing look at just how entertainment TV gets it wrong.

p.s. "Nempimaniac" is someone who is obsessed with gas milage/getting better MPG

If they keep on painting us as nut cases I might revert to an avitar like this

Hi Chuck:
___No you will not.
___Consider most on Top Gear have never followed the speed limit let alone the other consequences of not doing so. And of course their skill to take a Prius a touch above 60 mpg in a challenge. They are at best, poorly performing amateurs when pushing to an FE number. At worst, uncaring boobs who must really enjoy spending $10.00 per at the pump and to hell with everybody else
___This is where we have the edge. We speak to the common man with good common sense, not a bunch of clowns that may not have filled up the Ferrari F430 out of their own pocket while driving on a track at stupid speeds or if they do, it is not that often.
___Good Luck

Top Gear is very entertaining and they have done some good economy stories:
A 35mpg (US) tank from supercar is pretty good work for a non-hypermiler: Diesel A8 Twin Turbo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKa90jSvkPs)
And, they took a diesel to race... using the rapeseed biodiesel "they" grew the year before. :
24 Hr race - Diesel BMW (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aQPLdfk4Nk&feature=related)
Terrific entertainment and they challenge industry to give us fun cars. We all don't want Orwellian transportation and I believe we can develop 'sports' cars that are huge fun and don't wreak the planet - this is America!
