So I was watching the latest episode of Fifth Gear and was very disappointed with them in a very short segment they did on what they say the Americans call Hypermiling. In the seguay the one host explained how Hypermilers slipstream other drivers. So they were off on a bad foot. Then in the segment Tiff and Jarno Trulli took turns driving a Prius through a city course to see who could get the best MPG. They made driving for better fuel mileage seem extremely boring and plain old rediculous. On the plus side Jarno got 60 MPG and Tiff got 61 MPG, while he was supposedly implementing techniques he learned by reading American Hypermiling websites. I think Wayne or one of you elite Hypermilers should email Fifth Gear and offer to go in a head to head with Tiff to show him the techniques of a real hypermiler and the kind of numbers advanced implementation of these techniques could employ.

It was a very disappointing segment for the most part because of how media like this influences young future drivers. On the plus side Tiff and Jarno didn't do or talk about anything stupid like drafting or "slipstreaming".

I really think if Wayne emailed them there's a good chance they would take him up on the challenge to go head to head with Tiff. Come on Wayne! Go for it! I've love to see your mad skills on british tele!
