Hi,
Im driving a 2008 vw rabbit and just got myself a scangauge 2. Im getting really bad milage even with very gentle driving. In the city im averaging around 20L/100km (11.7mpg)... i havent done much highway driving yet, but i have done some mixed driving (city/highway and the best possible average i was getting was 14.7MPG. This car is rated at double that... why am i getting such poor results?
Im not gunning the car, im coasting whenever i can. Im not idling in traffic that much. I try and press the pedal only enough to get the car moving, and no aggresive driving.
Is this a normal result?
Hi Vio1:
___Welcome to CleanMPG!
___Where did you get your ScanGauge from and did you set it up properly as it sounds like you are running the defaults including a 3.0L engine? If your ICE size is correct, check that your fuel fill offset is set to 0% to begin with as that has been known to cause havoc with actual when played with accidentally ;)
___Good Luck

Welcome !
which engine - tranny do you have ?
does your Golf have a VW MFD ? If so, what is the MFD read-out versus the scanguage ?
Xcel is one of our masters w/ the scanguage - follow his advice and you'll be fine
I got my scangauge from scangauge Canada. I have set my engine to 2.5L. WHat is ICE? I will check to see the fuel fill offset is set to 0%
what is MFD?
Does the scanguage support a 5 cyl motor? I'll bet that's what's throwing it off.
i dont know does it?
where do i find the fuel offset?
ok,
i reseted the scangauge to defaults and set up again. Looks much better now. I was able to get a 9.4L/100km (25mpg) in city/traffic driving.
I have a few questions:
what MODE setting should i have: CANSF, CANLF, Auto, CANSS, CANLS, PWM, VPW, ISO, KWPF, or KWPS ?
what about PIDs? All or Supported?
What do these all mean?
Does it matter what i set the RATE too?

Vio1, the answers to your questions should be in the ScanGauge manual. For Mode, I suggest you set it to Auto unless you are having problems. Wids PIDs, All should probably be used unless you again are having problems. The Rate setting determines how frequently the ScanGauge will update. If you set the Rate too fast, the ScanGauge may not seem to update correctly. Normal works for almost every car and I think your Rabbit uses a CAN bus so a Fast setting may even work for you.
