View Full Version : I'm an Elitist
hhooks 08-24-2008, 05:56 PM Go ahead and call me Barack. I just hit Elite status! At 521 miles, I could have gone at least another 100 miles on this tank, but I couldn't wait until next week to fill up. I had to see what my new tank average was - 38.77. I was hoping to hit 40. Maybe next time.
msirach 08-24-2008, 05:59 PM Good Job!! It must have been tough keeping the foot out of the Z!
Good luck on your next goal!
ascribe2thelord 08-24-2008, 05:59 PM Congratulations!
But ... just for the record, why is it that Barack Obama gets called an elitist? He's just a really, really smart man standing up for what he believes in - who happens to be running for public office. That may make him stand out from a lot of people, but a true elitist is so lost in his own convictions that those beliefs turn into an ignorance for the thoughts and cares of other people.
hhooks 08-24-2008, 06:15 PM msirach: Thanks, and yes it is still sometimes tough to keep my foot out of it. I have gotten into a good routine on the highway, but in town I have to constantly pay attention so that I don't instinctively do a 0-60 test from every stoplight.
ascribe2thelord: Thanks, and I agree that the "elitist" label should not be used against either candidate. I would hope that anyone who gets to that level is going to be elite in the sense that he or she has a keen mind, a good education, and impressive experience. That's not always the case, but I definitely don't think it should be considered a negative. If some degree of wealth also comes with those qualities, that should also not be a negative. My $.02.
lamebums 08-24-2008, 06:22 PM People who cling to their guns and their religion are bitter because they are poor, according to Barack Hussein Obama. That's why.
But back on topic, I'm not going to steal the fun out on finally making elite status. That's something I'm a long, long way away from. :)
Chuck 08-24-2008, 06:33 PM My short trips around town this weekend did not get me that much above even the old highway EPA for my Insight - 70mpg so you gave me a beating!
hhooks 08-24-2008, 06:57 PM deltaflyer: Thanks, but anyone who is getting 70 mpg should definitely not feel beaten.
Sorry I opened the Barack door. My poor attempt at humor.
Chuck 08-24-2008, 07:01 PM Look at it this way - you have the only 350Z that beat me in hypermiling - everyone else is into the 0-60 thing. :D
ILAveo 08-24-2008, 07:40 PM Congratulations!
But ... just for the record, why is it that Barack Obama gets called an elitist?....
It should raise a red flag that you need to look at the background of the people marketing that idea (in this case Rush, the McCain camp)--it's usually a "he who smelt it, dealt it" sort of deal.
philmcneal 08-24-2008, 07:44 PM probably cuz power to weight ratio in the Z is much better than a ecobox like an echo. Its been proven in Wayne's Toyota Corolla XRS review.
congrats though you and that wrx guy is the only sporty hypermilers i kno of
Elixer 08-24-2008, 07:49 PM I can imagine P&G in that Nissan is quite fun. I'm sure the pulse has got quite a kick!
Right Lane Cruiser 08-24-2008, 10:31 PM Congratulations, Heath!!! Very nice work indeed! :woot:
SlowHands 08-25-2008, 07:21 AM Congrats on getting Elite Hypermiler status! That is a tough goal to meet... I came close last year, then winter hit :( and I'm trying again... and I will keep at it. I hope you do too!
hhooks 08-25-2008, 07:48 AM philmcneal: I don't know about the power to weight ratio thing. Maybe it helps. I was afraid that the largish engine and high horsepower would restrict me, so I'm pretty happy to get where I have with it. I suspect the 6-speed helps a lot.
Elixer: Yes, while the thrill is not exactly the same as a 0-60 sprint, P&G has made it a game and has made driving interesting again.
Sean: Thanks. I'm watching your amazing numbers closely, and it makes me want more each day to get my hands on an Insight.
SlowHands: Thanks, and keep trying. I can already see from my lower numbers on cool mornings that, if I had begun this journey in the fall, I would not be where I am now.
99metro 08-25-2008, 12:35 PM Congrats! I'm less than .6 of an MPG of getting there. Probably within the next 3 or 4 tanks.
A024523 08-25-2008, 01:46 PM Congratulations Heath! Way to work that Z. I'm working on that 150% lmpg goal myself.
bomber991 08-25-2008, 11:29 PM probably cuz power to weight ratio in the Z is much better than a ecobox like an echo. Its been proven in Wayne's Toyota Corolla XRS review.
congrats though you and that wrx guy is the only sporty hypermilers i kno of
Oh oh is that me?
Anyways the highest tank for me was 37.1mpg. That was all a 50 mile round trip highway commute, just nice-on p&g. I got a similar commute now so my numbers should be going back up into that range. I know if I went aggressive with the FAS I should be able to get my numbers up their even higher.
But yeah, if you got 38mpg for this tank, thats good, but it also means you did have segments higher than that. So it should be possible to get up to 40mpg.
JusBringIt 08-26-2008, 12:58 AM Hey I'm a sporty hypermiler too! :p.
great Job heath!. You got there a LOT quicker than I did that's for sure. It'll probably be while for me, though it may be a bit easier for me than Auston since he's logged a lot more miles. I havent driven a lot but will be driving quite a bit more...so much so that I will probably need to buy gas every 4 weeks now!
hhooks 08-26-2008, 03:15 PM Thanks everyone.
99metro: You're so close.
A024523: Good luck on your goal.
bomber991: Even before hypermiling you have the best of both worlds. Sports car fun and sedan practicality. Now, you have the best of three.
Ricardo: Your advice has helped me a lot. What you're doing with a V6 automatic is amazing.
