View Full Version : Does the CVT 'S' position affect Start-up RPMs?

I am used to using the "S" or "2" position on a conventional A/T to help when starting out on slippery conditions or loose gravel. In my HCH II the "S" position seems to behave much like a conventional A/T when I want to slow down. What I can't figure out is whether it also changes the effective ratio when starting up from a full stop.

Can anyone share their experiences from winter driving with the CVT to shed some light on this question?

Thanks,

Roger

Hi Roger.

It does not.
In fact, the "S" Position and its higher RPM behavior is mainly governed by the speed of the vehicle as a main determinant (but not the only one). In fact, to be even more specific, the "S" higher RPM behavior is more likely to be observed within a much narrower speed range than most folks think, typically above 20KM/h (I forgot the exact min speed). ;)
