When you're pulling a 30-40mph P&G sequence, it essentially breaks down into driving the car (ICE power going straight to wheels) up to 40mph, and coasting back down to 30mph with the motor off. The coast distance is proportional to the rate of acceleration so you can balance the two to maximize the fuel mileage, right? Nothing else like regenerative braking is being used... You're just taking advantage of the higher motor efficiency when accelerating, and the AS feature of the prius when coasting to minimize fuel (although you could FAS in a manual too) used. In other words, during P&G, the only hybrid function of the prius being used is the automatic engine cut below 40mph, you're not using the regenerative brakes or electric motor, unless you have to stop, but then you're not P&G'ing anymore. :p

Hi Lyinyoureye:

___You are pretty close … Read this article so you can become intimately familiar with the procedure of sorts. Adding a small amount of charge to the pack during the pulse gives you the ability to EV over the smaller hills ahead so as to extend gliding distances. The following should describe all you need to know if you have not read it yet.

P&G plus Warp Stealth in the Prius II for maximum FE … (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1224)

___If you have any other questions wrt P&G, fire away!

I see... so you add a bit to the battery pack to make sure the ICE doesn't turn on for small spurts when you don't want it to. Ideally, if you had a nice oval test track, you probably wouldn't even need to top off the battery pack. Did krousdb use this technique to get those outrageous numbers out of the Del Sol?

Thanks for the info btw! :)

if i were to p and g in my normal 5spd car, which gears should i use to accelerate? i can use 15 mpg rates and get up to 40 mph really fast, or use 30 mpg rates and get there really slow hmmm.......

and then there's low speed p and g... now that's a whole different ballpark!

Hi Lyeinyoureye:

___I will let Dan answer the questions about the Del Sol but I can tell you it was a pleasure riding with him in it.

___In a Prius II, you will never see the SoC drop to a level where the ICE will start normally but the small amount of pack charge gives you a decent amount of EV to pull the next small hill and extend glide distances even further.

___Phil, Billy asked me to make sure you are ready for the Vancouver Car show he will be attending on July 29th. I believe he will be there by 08:00 AM but when everyone is readying to leave, he said you could go out with him for your first “Insight” experience :D It truly is the “best” setup Insight in the world and you will definitely enjoy the experience.

___As for the rates and ranges, it really doesn’t matter. Change them to fit the traffic conditions. I like to use a max of 19 - 21 of 89 per the TPS in the Accord at ~ 1,900 RPM from 45 - 68 mph myself. At slower speeds, I like both. It really depends on traffic but you can do the calc’s on your own over a given distance by doing both.

___Good Luck
