Well something really popped out when I was updating my fuel logs on the 960.
I started out in Pittsburgh and got 29.72 mpg on my first tank of Sunoco. Stopped at the Pilot truck stop on I-26 right before I-95 split to fill up. Second tank I got 27.295. Filled up in Naples Florida at the local Hess for my trip home and I got 29.25 mpg. Stopped at that same Pilot truck stop and I got 26.47 mpg on my final leg home. Had to stop 40 miles from home for $10 worth of fuel to make it back. I filled up back in Pittsburgh since I had $1 per gallon discount on my Fuel Perks card that expires Aug 5th.
Remember Al never ever go near a Pilot truck stop fuel pump ever again.

Yep - I'm not too fond of that water labeled 'gas' that's sold by Hess either...

Did you hit an E10/RFG area when you left home? That might make up the MPG difference.

The Sunoco and the Hess have E10 stickers on the Pump. I would love to see what this car would get on real Gasoline. All I can figure with the Pilot fuel is they are selling 87 or 89 in the 91 pump.

I'm pretty sure they do it to save money-they sell a gallon for less ,so they charge a bit less. You are driving down the interstate looking for a good price- you see $3.80 or whatever- figure it is a good price. Unfortunately ,by the time you realise it is E10, you have already pulled off the interstate and have your hand on the pump.

I frequenty stop at Loves truck stops -along I-40 and Hy 287 across TX ,NM ,AZ because they have nice clean rest rooms , and Subways (which has fast food that isn't too fatty), and their prices on milk, coffee , bread ,cheese aren't too bad. Unfortunately they frequently have E-10, which probably steals 1-2 mpg or so from my Suburban. I use it because Loves is so good otherwise.

PS It is kinda sneaky that they don't "say" E10 on those big signs- it is like getting .95 gallons instead of 1.0 gallons.

I haven't tried Pilot stations recently? I'll have to check it out. My worst experience has been with Sunoco gas on the PA Turnpike and by any BP.

Add Racetrack to the list of what not to buy. Here in TX that Racetrack gasoline is weak stuff.
