Just curious if anyone out there is driving the SOHC 4L Ranger out there and what they are getting. I rarely drive mine, but I did get 25 mpg driving 50/50 highway city. The highway was uphill through the grapevine from LA to Gorman, I was chilling in the slow lane the entire time though staying in line with the Semi's.

Thats pretty good for a 4l
I had a 99 for my first delivery truck. I probably got upper teens, that was back when I had very little consciousness of fuel economy :(

Our 98 is a 4.0L V6 with auto. In a suburban mix, it can pull 22-24. The best I ever had was a 182 mile run mostly interstate that gave a 29.6 mpg, with a state highway portion doing P&G that gave a 30.3 for 43.6 miles. ScanGauge is your friend for sure to get these numbers.
Good luck with your Ranger!

Hmm both of you are running the OHV motor so I am not sure if there is a huge difference in the MPGs there. But I also run 32x11.50 tires, one of the reasons why I rarely drive it now. I average somewhere around 17 normally. I have to mod my DIN adapter to house my scanguage. On my list of many many mods for my truck. I still have to look into P&G. Seems like the best way to get my MPG up, especially since my truck does not have cruise control.
Oh I also have 4x4 nad extended cab, did you guys have that?
Thanks for the responses!

my explorer has that engine in it. The thing is a beast. I think 22 is my best hwy mpg, but that was before I was F/E minded. I just haven't driven it on a long trip in about 2 years.
