I checked out a couple of Auston's youtube commute videos on Friday and ran across one from another hypermiler who, using a scanguage, showed how much FE is lost when you turn on the headlights (and the A/C, but that's a no-brainer). He was driving without the lights and the scanguage was showing 24 gph. When he turned on the headlights it jumped up to 31 gph.

I'm just throwing this out there because I don't recall seeing "turn off your headlights" mentioned in the "basics" here and a lot of folks (myself included) drive cars with lights that are "always on."

___.24 to .31 gph at idle would be a bit much and especially for your RXh. Headlights and tail lights can take a tool however and in the Prius at night, you can lose up to 10 mpg when pushing for max. In your RXh w/ the large 3.3L ICE just driving it gently, I suspect it would be more along the lines of .5 mpg’s. Give me a minute to look up the FEH’s fall-off with lights vs. none if I still have it.

___The FEH loses .9 mpg on the EPA cycles w/ lights so I suspect your RXh loses maybe .6 mpg’s as a guess?

Just thought I'd better clarify. My RX isn't a hybrid. I simply can't afford that option right now.

With my vehicles, turning on my halogen headlights produces about a 4% drop in mileage, resulting in a 3mpg drop in my Civic when I'm averaging 70mpg with them off and a 1mpg drop in my ford F150 when I'm running at 25mpg with them off. The general, the higher your average mpg, the bigger your drop in mpg numbers resulting from turning your headlights. On the SuperMID, my injector pulsewidth at warm idle goes from its normal 2.3-2.4 value to 2.6 with the headlights on. With the lights on, you are adding about 140W of additional load to the alternator.

___I see that now (my bad ;)). With the 3.0L ICE, about .6 mpg would be about right.
